On tap at Indiana Microbrewers Fest. Pours oily black color with a thin tan colored head. Aroma is chocolate, light cherries, caramel, coffee. Flavor is also chocolate, cherries, caramel, and coffee. Palate is full bodied, mild carbonation, finished lightly bitter. Solid.

On tap at the Brewer’s Guild Festival. One of my favorite beers of the day. Well extracted, oily, chewy, and a very mild 11%. I was thinking around 8% at the time of tasting. Notes of soy and toffee blend with a tart raspberry finish. Cherry was not overwhelming, but became more pronounced as the beer warmed. (I had this in my sampling glass for about 20 minutes.) Well done.

Indiana Microbrewers Fest: Black with a creamy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of chocolate covered cherries, caramel, charred malts, walnut and a hint of wood. The taste has a big malt character up front supported by some lactic and fruit sourness. Ashy and earthy finish. The mouth feel is chewy and thick, oily and smooth, very nice without overpowering. This is very good complex stout, Mikey Likey.

draft at St Louis microfest. Pours pitch black with thin brown head. Aromas of roasted malts and barley with hints of cherry. Rich and thick tastes of caramel, chocolate and cherry. My favorite from the microfest.

Black bodied. Somewhat weak cherry and coffee aroma. The flavor is the same cherry and coffee, with a much stronger coffee note.

Sampled at the Savor DC event. Pours a opaque, watery black with a cloudy tan head. Aroma has tons of vanilla, oak, cherries and bourbon. The flavor surprisingly loses alot of the oak, primarily roasted malt, nuts, coffee and some vanilla. As far as barrel aged beers go, this misses the mark a bit.

(Savor, draft) Brown head atop cola-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, chocolate, cherry, some alcohol, roast. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolate, alcohol, some coffee, cherry, light raisin. Sticky medium-full body. A little bit too much alcohol in the flavor prevents this from being more enjoyable.

Draft sample (I think) ours very dark brown approaching pure black. Very mild nose of oak and cherries, really it’s mostly a dry and charred milk chocolate and wood smell and flavor, with a little bit of lactic milk tasted at times. Dry oak and very mild, muted cherries and medium roast level throughout. A quiet stout that surprised me by not going too far with everything thrown at this beer.

Pours really dark and threatening. The cherries give an indescribable (but I’ll try) pit fruit, jerky, floral component when combined with the unique yeast that comes to the forefront of the aromas here. Rich chocolate and fruiting extend over the considerable length of this beer. There is plenty of care, and lots to enjoy. An out-of-the-box stout.

Jet black with a smallish dark brown head. Whiskey dominates the aroma. Flavor is roasted coffee, whiskey, roasted malt, dark fruit. Delicious! It looks GREAT and tastes almost as good.
