Not as tart as a sour ale, with the light body and low ABV it would make a nice summer beer. This is a hard one to rate never having had the style before

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
650ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with average to huge, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige to tan head. Decent smoky, malty aroma, hints of oak ashes, bacon, a touch of milk chocolate. Taste is minimally tart, minimally strawy, cautiously smoky, a layer of slightly sweet malt with a touch of milk chocolate and treacle throughout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber from Whole Paycheck. Very dark brown with a light beige head leaving foam all over the glass. Aroma is slightly tart and lactic with a smoky, roasty note. The flavor is really nice, slightly tart, roasty and lactic with notes of charcoal. Slight bitterness on the finish. The mouthfeel is robust yet the beer is drinkable. Higher carbonation. Interesting beer! I like it.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I’ve pretty much learned not to buy any more of the lips of faith series bombers, but I broke my rule because I’d never tried a Grotzer and I figured maybe the 3 Floyds collaboration might be interesting as well. I’m fairly glad I did.
Very dark pour for a relatively low alcohol beer, orange-brown highlights. Large billowing head, ashy brown and very attractive, settling back into a hilly topography atop my glass. Roasty, smoky aroma, smoked like a smoked porter rather than a rauchbeer, is met with mocha notes and just a slight lacto sourness. The flavor pretty much follows the unusual aroma: very roasty, ashy, relatively dry, very gently sour, modest smoke. This reminds me more of a sourish smoked porter than anything else I can think of. Fairly thin, quaffable mouthfeel is not a detriment, rather, it’s nice to have a beer that is easy to drink and low in alcohol with flavor this big. I can’t say that this is a style I would drink regularly, but it’s interesting and now I’d like to try the real thing.
tl;dr summary: This dark lager is roasty, moderately smoky, and just a bit sour.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours black with a two finger mocha head. Nice lacing left throughout. Has a coffee, roasted malt, caramel, and chocolate. Mildly sour upfront that finished dry and bitter. Flavors of dark roasted malts, coffee, caramel, and dark chocolate. Medium body that was dry and chewy on the palate. Was decent overall.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark pour with brown head. Aroma has a slight lacto note with roasted malts, slight fruity sweetness (dates). Relatively light bodied. Smokey notes upfront, with some mid palate malt sweetness and roast. Slight lacto finish and a little acidic and creamy. Quite nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Considering the ABV of this brew I was impressed. Light smokey. Light body but both just enough. If its supposed to be a sour beer they really failed very light to no sour. But overall I would say I would get this again. Nice mouthfeel. This is worth being canned and sold regularly in my opinion.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I tried this at a recent tasting not knowing what to expect stylistically. I sort of enjoyed it, but that is based on a small sample and I doubt I would want to drink an entire bomber. Smokey and savory on nose and palate I think this would be great with a meal or paired with cheese. For as bold as it seemed, it was pretty approachable and light in body. Good overall balance.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft. Aroma was malty. Pours a murky dark brown with lighter brown two finger head. Tasted malty and rich, the sourness surprisingly did not come through as much as I’d if liked...all and all a decent brew.
