Jun 9, 2008 Some smokey malts and coffee. No hops, sweet dominant. Not my style but I appreciate it. Drinkable but lingers a bit. Very dark brown black color with a small tan head. A bit bread and has a heavy body.

Jun 9, 2008 My bottle (355ml) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of Kevin. Pours a clear deep amber-brown with an average size frothy tan head. Slightly odd (to me anyway) aroma is roasty and chocolaty, dry and citrusy along with some light green hops and sour fruit -- yes it’s odd but it works. Flavour of mild roast, chocolate, light hops and an average short bitter finish. We were all surprised how quick the finish is. Medium bodied. This was a nice surprise, I had no idea what to expect and I certainly did not expect this -- good stuff!

Jun 9, 2008 bottle. Pours a rich roasty dark brown, nice thick but small tan head. Nice nose of spice and malt and caramels. Flavor is a lot lighter than you expect for the colour. malty and sweet, hint of belgium spices in the background. finishes well.

Jun 9, 2008 Updated: Jun 17, 2008Opening the bottle delivers a fruity aroma akin to an Old or Scottish ale. Pours very dark brown with a verrrrry frothy head. Beer goes down very frothy in mouthfeel, akin to a nitro-ized stout, and with a roasty toasty grainy portery finish. And manages after all that to retain a distinctly Belgian character. Lovely. Got a 6er for $7, that’s good.

Jun 8, 2008 Pours dark reddish with nearly receding off-white wispy head. Aroma of aromatic malt, toffee, caramel. Taste is caramel, toffee, bready lager yeast. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation.

Jun 7, 2008 I drank 1554 last night and don’t remember it being so sweet. This is a unique beer, very complex malt character. It has a very low hop profile, which seems to be appropriate for style. The sweetness was overpowering though and made it somewhat difficult to drink. I do enjoy the malty aroma however.

Jun 5, 2008 Pours a dark brown with red highlights. A tan one finger head. Aroma is roasted malt with a bit of hop. This is a porter light. It has everything a porter has but lighter. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee. Smooth and zesty feel. A very nice beer.
