Probably New Belgium’s best, but all of their beers are better on tap than in the bottle. For some odd reason, most of their bottled beer has a soapy aftertaste.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: Very roasty. Smells like a porter. Citrus lemon or something in the back.
A: Looks good, Head retention is alright. Color is dark brown clear reddish.
T: Tastes like porter meets lager (dare I say baltic porter) Nah, more acid citrus note. A little thin and light. Watery. A bit malty.
P: Very light on the palate. Some decent flavors.
This is a pretty solid beer. Nice roasty note balances well with the maltyness. A solid everyday beer.

Dark reddish brown pour. Nice malty smell. Has a very light crispy roasted malt taste, but still has a lot of flavor. Can also taste some caramel and plum.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle: Aroma has got a nice malt characteristic with a bit of plum notes as well, a bit of roasted and toasted notes too. Appearance is a dark black color with a thick slightly tan head. Taste has got a nice full malt backing with a roasted caramel characteristic. Palate has got a nice malty note. Overall, good stuff. Cheers!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Pours soda brown with a large tan head that leaves plenty of lacing. Malty aroma and taste of chocolate, toffee, roasted malts, hints of coffee and earthy hops. Sweeter than expected, reminiscent of a sweet stout. Great slight hop bitterness, cream and toasty malt in the finish. Medium to full bodied, creamy but slightly thin texture, low carbonation. Very easy drinker. Excellent and very enjoyable!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2013 bottle to a tulip glass. Pours a very dark garnet brown with a fizzy tan head and moderate lacing. Aroma is a mild roasted malt with some chocolate and dark fruit. Taste is roasted malt, some coffee, chocolate. Well carbonated thin-medium mouthfeel with a bit of a sting. Reminded me of a brown ale.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Good mild black ale. Poured from a tap, a dark dark red with a white head and a lot of lacing. Nearly no hops, almost entirely roasted, coffee, and dark tastes with a bit of sweetness. Despite the taste, not all that heavy to drink, there’s a thinness to the overall finish that is altogether pleasant but unexpected. It’s actually a relatively good black ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rated oin 5-11-2009 (Bottle with Best Before: 18Sep09 on the label) This beer pours a medium sized, very fizzy beige head that mostly diminished, transparent reddish brown body, fair amount of lacing, fizzy, and fast rising carbonation. The Aroma is malty, chocolate, roasty, and sweet. The Taste is sweet, malty, chocolate, and has a dry finish. The Palate is smooth, thin and this beer is light-medium bodied. In conclusion, this beer is very quaffable, a session beer, worth trying, and a beer I would drink again.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a black color with off white head. Roasty, charred wood, malty aromas. Malty, roasty, fruity flavors. Lighter bodied for a dark malty beer. I could knock back a bunch of these. Very Good.
