Smooth, dark, melty, chocolaty ecstasy. Vanilla, delicious, amazing dream. Tastes like the year 1554.

This is the perfect dark ale,I have finally found a great ale, with mild hops.It is not too bitter, the sweet malts are perfect. This is the best dark ale I have ever had and I will make my primary daily drinker.I liked everything about it. Perfect! I like this brew better than fat tire. Its the best tasting beer in the world ,I love it.

An amazing lesser known beer. I always bring this beer to gatherings and everyone’s always surprised how good this is. If you like Fat Tire you MUST try 1554!!!

New Belgium is onto something with the 1554. A dark beer that you can drink even when it is 100 F. Wonderful mouth feel, a hint of chocolate sweetness, fantastic!

Dark reddish brown; near black, body with very light aroma of chocolate and coffee. Initial zesty acidic flavor with surprisingly clean, refreshing finish. My all-time personal favorite.

My favorite black ale. Weyerbacher’s Black Hole aspires to this but misses the light touch and winds up too cough-syrupy. 1554 can be guzzled or sipped non-stop, in a word: drinkable. Also, has a bit of alcohol sting on top so you don’t notice the low content.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2010 Pours a black amber with a fizzy white head. The aroma is faintly of chocolate and other malts. Tastes malty, but not of chocolate, and the alcohol is not overpowering. Medium-bodied with a fizzy smooth texture and average carbonation, the 1554 Enlightened Black Ale finishes long and smooth with light bitterness that really completes the experience. I will definitely drink this again.

One of my favorites. It a darker beer but doesn’t taste dark. Plus it has a hint of chocolate!
