UPDATED: AUG 1, 2005 Bready/toasty malt with faint texture and taste of raisins and a bit chewy with a long finish as beer is cold, when it warms it becomes creamy, fruity and acidic. An original example of an unheard of style.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2004 Superb palate and appearance: Creamy and silky; Brown with ruby highlights with a thin head. The slight cocoa nose and muted flavor don't grab me though. Thanks Gusler!

Ok, maybe it’s not a porter, a stout, or a dark lager, but I have to compare it to something. Has the look of many American porters and the head retains nicely. Aroma of burnt caramel and a very light alcohol smell. Tastes very similar to Saranacs Black Forest except with a better palate and a less obtrusive after-taste.

A unique beverage in itself, this remonds me of a heavier version of Warsteiner Dunkel. Not near as heavy as it’s Black/Red appearance would have you to believe.

New Belgium is very impressive all over but 1554 is great. Super dark, nice roasted quality. Dark and chocolatey malts, just a hint of sweetness Great texture and body. Overall a great black beer. Smooth, very smooth through and through.

Pours a not quite black, more of a deep red. Aroma is of roasted malt and flavor is suprise roasted malt. Good burnt flavor gives this brew a nice chocolate taste. This beer is not a every day brew but should be had at least once. Very different

Dark with a rapidly dissipating head. Aroma is malty with anise and caramel. Flavour is dry and malty with some fruity notes.

Yet another beer that I have sampled numerous times but have never bothered to rate. Dark Rubyt. Deep aroma of black malt, giving tons of coffee along with chocolate, fruit, nuts and a delicate bitter hoppiness. Thin, yet somewhat creamy texture. Edgy, somewhat astringent and sharp. Malt driven. An ok beer.
