Bottle. Poured dark brown with tall still head. Nutty aroma with a hint of apple spices and cloves. Sweet bready taste. Slight bitterness keeps it light tasting. Medium dry finish. Light body and texture. Med/low carbonation. An enjoyable and different brown ale.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pleasant, mellow malty profile, toffeeish, lightly roasty and sweet, with hints of molasses and bread, but with a very drinkable consistency. Needs to be a little warmer than most people realize for maximum flavor, though.

It pours with a tan head and dark amber in color. It has a smoky, chocolate aroma. There are also some basement aromas present as well. It has well defined smoke, chocolate flavors. It is mostly smooth on the palate.

Toasty and chocolaty with a rich smooth flavor. It’s classed a dunkel but flavor wise leans to stout or porter. Very enjoyable beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. This one holds a special place in my heart as it was a college graduation beer in 2006.
A: Mahogany with an off-white head.
N: Cocoa, coffee, char, and toast. Biscuit and a hint of vanilla.
T: Very clean sweetness. Coffee bitterness.
M: Light body, fizzy carbonation, no alcohol presence.
O: A flavorful, clean lager with an appreciable ’stout’ quality. Compares favorably with Heater Allen Schwarzbier.

Bottle, pours black with a hint of red. Thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt continues thru to palate along with chocolate. Have had this on several occasions, every time I'm glad I did. Putting this on my favorites list.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A perennial good drink for the fall and winter months. Pours a nice smooth dark from the bottle. Consistent black lager taste but leaves the palate a little late in my opinion

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
"looks and tastes more like a robust brown, porter, or most closely-a black lager. full flavored, but not overpowering on the belgian yeast strain. just a hint of spice in there with all the roasted malty flavors. good beer."
