Commercial Description:
Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.

Bottle from Seattle 08’ Dark brown pour with fruit nose. Quality beer at a bargain price. Sweet (candi) and fruity with hints of belgian yeast running through the palette. Will buy again.

Dark caramel body with nice frothy white head. The aroma is really fruity. Raisins there certainly. Flavor has a nice sweet malt character to it with a nice doughy touch and quite yeasty. Very nice beer. But definitely better Dubbel’s.

Bang for the buck, this is right up there, and I don’t know why go spend considerable amounts of dough on other Abbey-style ales. This is just about what I would come to expect from a mainstream-quality Dubbel and I rate accordingly. I’d even go with this over the brewer’s 1554 Ale, itself a good value.

botle: cherry coke colour brown with a huge pillowy white head, some lacing. aroam is full of candi sugar, clove adn other spice, belgian yeast and some malt, flavour is kinda of flat with plenty of spicy yeast adn candi sugar that malt seems to be lost.

In short: A sweet spicy Belgian-candy beer. More like a light Belgian Christmas beer than a Abbey Dubbel. Not bad, not a Dubbel, not worth it.
How: Bottle 12oz, from BeerAndBlues2, thanks a lot Brad! Drank some 6 months after the trade so the bottle probably was about 1 year old.
The look: Clear ruby body with a medium beige of head
In long: A unusual mix of flavours for a so-called Abbey Dubbel. Barley candies, bananas, cloves, dark grapes, cinnamon and some cherries. Body is a bit slimy/sticky and with some kind of tar feeling (not a compliment). Finish has some cherries sourness and barley candies sweetness. Not a bad really but this is not Abbey Dubbel. I prefer Abbey Dubbels from Old Belgium, you know, that 12,000 square-miles brewery.

My bottle (355ml) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of Kevin. Pours a clear deep orange-amber with an average size semi-lasting tan head. Aroma of banana, other fruit, sugary sweetness, light spices and alcohol -- too candy sweet for my liking. Flavour of caramel malt, Belgian yeast, candi sugar and alcohol. Light bitter finish. Average bodied. It’s not bad but I personally do not care for it.

Pours a brownish red with a large tan head. Aroma of banana, spices, yeast, and caramel. Flavor is banana, caramel, yeast, rasins, bread. Pretty tasty, but not something i’d seek out again.

Blankboys bottle! Thanks! App: Light red with an eggshell head. Aroma: Spicey banana and nutty. Flavour, caramel candy with some malt in there too, a light bitter finish, not bad, thanks Paul
