COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.

12 oz bottle. Clear thin brown, small off white head. Aroma of alcohol and caramel candy. Taste is sweet caramel, bubblegum, slight citrus. Interesting and different.

absolutely loved this beer, great flavor with a mild sweetness, little to none of the ’hops bitterness’

Deep mahogany pour with a grayish cream head. The aroma is a mixture of malts and roasted herbs. Flavor is a bit woody, not what I hoped for. Light hop presence. Medium-light body.

This New Belgium beer once again proves why New Belgium is one of my favorite breweries. This belgian style meets the medium strength of bitter and sourness. A great lively beer.

A truly great example of an American brewed Belgian Ale. Smooth with a fantastic malt complexity. At 7% ABV it’s very surprisingly drinkable. The official description says "boldly" served by itself but I can think of few beers better to drink on a crisp fall day.

12oz bottle from Whole Foods Los Altos. Pours a beautiful clear dark garnet color with a two-finger beige head that leaves excellent lacing on the glass. Sweet banana bread aroma with lots of caramel and dark fruit notes. Flavor is that of a serious malt bomb. Huge caramel and toffee flavors, banana bread, candy apple, and sweet raisins. A little too far on the sweet side but still tasty. Smooth and creamy on the palate with good carbonation. Would like a dubbel to be a little drier. Good beer overall. A New Belgium beer that could almost pass for one from old Belgium.

New Belgium managed to pull this one off. As much as I like their push with the new labels, I like the old logo better, but just on this one. BLASPHEMY!
