COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.

A fine Belgian-style beer. Maybe it’s because I’m in a house full of dogs, but I’m underwhelmed by the aroma; and maybe it’s because I poured poorly, but I get no head. The taste and mouth are nice, though, and that’s what matters. Like the best Belgian Abbey’s, this is the kind of beer you only need one of in a night--not a lawnmower beer

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep brown amber with a creamy head. Smells of slightly roasted caramel malt, yeast, and dark fruit. Aroma seems a little subdued, however. Flavor of caramel malt, light clove spice, light banana, and dark fruits with a sense of wood earthiness. Some yeasty notes as well. Palate is smooth and creamy. The finish is dry and more alcoholic than the start. Pretty well balanced.

bottle. Pours nice looking clear rusty auburn / ruby color with bubbly off white head. Smells of tropical fruits, banana, coconut, wheat, bubblegum. Full bodied and kind of creamy with spicy bite, fruits like plum, grape now noticeable, with banana bread / carrot cake on the finish. Sessionable, goes down smooth and easy but not too heavy, very good right now.

Bottle at New Belgium HUB. Pours a translucent deeper brownish amber with a large foamy off white head that left sticky lacing. Aroma of banana, clove, toasted malt and dark fruits. Flavor of toasted malt, earthy, light banana, some dark fruits. Clean and filtered tasting...like my dubbels a bit more "rustic" but solid regardless.

I will start by saying that I love the New Belgium Brewery and have toured it once and look forward to doing so again! Despite this I found the overall taste of this beer to be lacking compared to other beers of this category. I am also new to rating :)

Pours a golden brown and very clear. Aroma is somewhat sour with a light banana and malt note. Mild banana taste and slightly sweet. Decent brew.

Even better than their trippel. This brew had a moderately thick head that stuck to the glass and took at least 2 minutes to begin fading. Nose was absolutely bubble-gum with a distinct earthiness to it...like wood and mushrooms or something. The taste had bubblegum notes and a floral sweeetness that was absolutely terrific. I can’t really think of anything negative to say. Color was a slightly cloudy amber.

A nice light super delicious Belgium ale. Not harsh in any way. The clove in this beer is exceptional.
