It’s not great, but it’s not as bad as I thought it might be. The flavor is nice and I may have to stop saying so many bad things about this brewery. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Aug 29, 2007 Bottle. Very dark amber. Smells like sour garbage. Really sour and tart taste. Carbonated garbage. Awful aftertaste. Do not want again. I do not get all the hype and excitement about this beer at all. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 27, 2007 Dark brown pour with a good tan head in a trappist glass. Standard fruity belgian yeast smell, but more lightly than most of the style, and mixed with a dark roasty malt like smell and flavor as well. As it warms big notes of licorice come through and stay. Taste was similar to the smell and was perhaps my favorite belgian beer, and I’m not a huge fan of them. I could definitely see this growing on me, and could get this again. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA

Aroma of sweet banana and fruit. Flavor of banana with lots of fruit, warm alcohol and malty sweetness linger on the finish. A bit too malty for me, at least during the hot Texas summer. I prefer the New Belgium Tripel, but obviously, that is a stylistic difference. extremeicon (108), Wichita, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2007 Domestic or no, this is still a very drinkable double. Dark reddish brown color with a very thin off-white head. Complex fruity/spicy aroma. Quite well-balanced flavor of fruits, yeast, and pleasant malty finish. Another great one from New Belgium. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2007 Good attempt at a double. Very good attempt if you look at how old the brewery is. They haven’t had 100 years to slowly perfect their recipe.
Dark breads, nuts, fruit cake, clove...all the great smells that come with a double.
I’m not a huge double fan, but I love the craftsmanship...and this beer has exactly that.
