jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Dec 21, 2004 Pours a clear brown with a thin tan head that quickly diminishes. Nose is cherry, plum, date, all mish-mashed together. Banana and apple tastes mix with creamy caramel malt and a sharp hops bite. The carbonation is very strong and carries the strong alcohol with it, rather too much for my taste. Improves as it warms. Slightly oily mouthfeel. I enjoy it but prefer dubbels that have the alcohol less ascendant. Overall good. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 19, 2004 Slight head and a purely peachy color. Aroma is magical, delightful, a veritable fruit salad in the nose...tropical fruits, mango, banana. Great hop presence, and a delicious spark on the tongue. Light in texture and body, but full of flavor. Medium carbonation, and, again, a beautiful little ballet by hops on the palate. An excellent tripel, one of the best stateside versions I’ve ever encountered, if not the best!
Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Dec 19, 2004 Updated: Oct 16, 2005red body with a bit of white head.honestly all i really got out of the aroma and flavor was banana’s.i hate to say it but it wasnt really my thing. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Dec 19, 2004 Pour is a deep red with a nice sized white head. Aroma is fruity and spicey. Smell like Christmas! Flavor is excellent. Lots of yeasty and malty goodness. Lots of fruityness in this brew as well. Banana comes to mind. Over probably the best "Belgian" I have had that did not come from Belgium. meathookjones (245), Sterling, Virginia, USA Dec 16, 2004 This poured a deep reddish brown color with a slight light tan head. Even the head goes down to maintain a covering of bubbles that leaves nice sheets of lace decorating the glass with each sip. The smell is rich with rich sweet rip fruits a bit of light spicing and a touch of caramel. Very tasty aroma here that really gets you looking forward to that first sip. Ahhh the taste of fruit when this first meets your lips is excellent. There must be hops in there balancing this out because it never really gets too sweet. The finish is malty with a bit of spice. Full creamy mouthfeel lends to this great brew as it goes down very smoothly. This was one of the most drinkable Belgians I have ever had, I couldn’t stop sipping it. Overall a good beer that I definitely would recommend trying. daniela (9), Berkeley, California, USA does not count Dec 15, 2004 copper-brown with rapidly fading head. fruity bubblegum flavor, tart finish, bitter ness that lasts at the front of the mouth. pleasant drinking, though not a particular standout ffrom new belgium. Smacky (71), San Clemente, California, USA Dec 8, 2004 A pleasant - although somewhat light-colored - double, NB Abbey has a nose of fruity esters, yeast, and subtle spice. The flavors are more of the same, but with greater detail: the fruit resolves itself into a hint of cherry, citrus, and banana, malt and bread from the yeast, and an ever-so-slight and not-unpleasant bite from the alcohol. Glad I finally got hold this while visiting Seattle. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Nov 29, 2004 Updated: Mar 23, 200548°. Dark brown with an off white head that subsides quickly. Sampled in the New Belgium Worthy Globe. Yeasty smell. Sweet, citrusy, banana taste. The finish is somewhat tart.
RE-RATE: I am starting to appreciate this one more, though as I am drinking it, all I can think of is banana bread, it tastes remarkably similar to it.
