Thick feel with a good malt and bread taste along with a striking banana taste and aroma. This is quite nice. 8/4/7/3/16 Re-Rating, April 13, 2009: Brown, slight ruby color with no head. Strong aroma of grain, caramel, toffee, candi sugar, bread and yeast. The taste is more muddled than the aroma. Some grain and bread notes, a light yeastiness. Faint Noble hop bitterness.

Oct 23, 2004 Brown Coloring With Red Tints. Good Head. Very Nice...Liking the Dubbels...Bread Dough, Sweet, Malty...Some Raisins, Alcohol a Bit Noticeable.. Some Spices in There As Well. Mildy Thicker Then Average Brew...Goes Down Very Smooth.

Oct 22, 2004 Aroma is nice and fruity with nice fresh cantelope and honeydew. Pours really nicely with a nice head brought on by the fizzy carbonation. Head retains nicely and can be refreshed with a gentle swirl. Flavor has raisin, bread , and spice. slighly sweet with a thin, watery body. Aftertaste turns a litlle dry, with a slight bitterness. Pretty good , but nothing great.

Oct 10, 2004 Large, rocky tan head, good retention and plenty of lace. Dark amber, red hued color. Spicey, fruity nose, faint citrus and sugar. Medium body, lightly creamy. Medium sweet maltiness, dark fruit flavors, overipe bananna. Malty. A fairly dry finish. Thanks to whaleman for this one.

Oct 9, 2004 Amber brown with trace white head. Musty sour raisins on the nose. Flavors of black pepper, clove and banana. With a lingering banana bread for 60+ sec. Flavor starts to fall apart after 10 minutes in the glass. Nice dubbel, but didn’t think that it held up well and I would like more maltybody.

Oct 9, 2004 Deep amber brown with off-white head and sediment. Sweet cherry malt nose with toffee, carmel and roasted flavors. Med-to heavey mouthfeel with lingering biter sweet finish. Sweet with cherry, toffee, sweet banana, spice, nutmeg, and nutty roasted flavors.

Oct 3, 2004 Poured dark ruby with a dense white head. Good retention throughout and lacing was certainly not as issue. A think lace left on the glass.
The nose was full of sugars, yeast, dark fruits, cloves and apples.
A variety of different flavors in this beer: raisins, clove, banana, pear, apricots, caramel and the alcohol was very well hidden.
Overall very good for the style but with similar American interpretations like Ommegang and Allagash Dubbel this beer is simply not up to par.
