jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA May 11, 2009 (bottle from B&B liqour in colorado springs.) Pours a dark amber color. Medium off white head. Light fruit aroma. Sweet malt flavor. Avg duration. Smooth finish, but slightly astringent. Medium body. Thin texture. Minimal lacing. Moderate carbonation. dirt55 (150), Washington, USA May 9, 2009 bottled, pours clear dark ruby with small white head, amazingly sweet candy/fig/raisin nose with no real hop presence noted, sweet malt with notes of dark fruits with lingering light hops on palate, amazingly delicious MrChopin (622), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2009 Transparent ruby with a bubbly white head, gone quickly. Nose is incredibly sweet, lots of bubblegum and caramel, some fruit and nut to dry out the sweetness a bit. Flavor is similarly sweet, the bubblegum as gummy as I’ve had, but the malt helps balance the flavor, upping it from the flavor. Rather juicy, some banana and clove in the finish. The flavor is rather refined, but I’m not as large of the gum as some. Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA May 8, 2009 A clear mahogany pour with a nice thick one finger sized tan head. Sticky lacing. Aroma is pleasant with yeast, malt, banana, and clove. Flavor is less appealing and is just a bit muddled. It is quite sweet with yeast, clove, sugar, alcohol, and malt. It is easy to drink and certainly not bad at all, but flavors just don’t quite achieve what the aroma hints at. dionysus (95), Arizona, USA May 6, 2009 One of the more solid brews from New Belgium. Bottle pours a bright golden-orange color with a thin, off-white, fizzy head. The aroma is pretty lively with intertwining notes of bananas, carmel apples, pears and hay. The taste is typical of a belgian double with some brown sugar on the front palate, leading into a touch of alcohol, and following up with a spicy finish. Overall a pretty easy drinking brew, with a nice dry finish. glennmastrange (810), hobe sound, Florida, USA May 3, 2009 Bottle. Moderate aromas all around, roasted and caramel for the malt, flowers and herbs fro the hops, barnyard for the yeast, with sherry, banana, spices and dried fruits. Head is small, fizzy, off-white, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Flavor starts and finishes lightly sweet and acidic. Palate is light to medium, watery and has a fizzy carbonation. A nice Abbey Dubbel with perfect balance. This beer surpasses the other beers NB brews that I’ve tried. scoth (267), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 2, 2009 Pours clear burnt-umber, with a medium beige head, good lacing. Smells fantastic! Plum, apple, caramel, banana and citrus scents. Medium, velvety body, slightly dry. Tastes of caramel, tart apple, and more citrus. bierkoning (5992), La Tropica, Netherlands Apr 26, 2009 Bottle from Cody, thanks! Dark brown color. Slightly roasted aroma with dark chocolate and pear. Roasty flavor with dark chocolate, raisin and hints of cinnamon. Sweetish but pleasant abbey ale, without being world shocking.
