Commercial Description:
Abbey is brewed in the style of a Belgian "Double" ale. It is brown in color, with a full body and a distinctive fruity aroma. Abbey is fermented with an authentic Belgian yeast strain, and is refermented in the bottle to produce natural carbonation. A small amount of live yeast remains in the bottle giving the beer a freshness and fullness of character. The beer should be served cool (not cold) to best experience the rich aroma and complex flavors.

12 oz. bottle. Aggressive pour, plus a bottle swirl for residual yeast produced surprisingly little head. Foam ring lingers, though. Despite bottle conditioning, this brew is rather clear brown. Nose is quite sweet, with a pear/banana character. Flavor is mostly malts with a fruity, yeasty bite. For this one, the sum is greater than the parts--it’s very quaffable, but watch out for the alcohol content, as it hides rather well.

Garnet colored...impressive off-white creamy head. Nuttiness, dark fruit, caramel and brown sugar on the nose. You can definitely taste it’s Belgian influences but it just doesn’t stand up to the smaller batch beers in terms of complexity. A nice transitional brew. Inexpensive and tasty, but not amazing.

Mahogany with a medium off-white head. Aroma of fruit, brown sugar, nuts and bubblegum. Taste of brown sugar, nuts, toffee and fruit. Semi-dry nutty finish.

Brewed in large quantities reduces the Belgian ale-ness. However, thats makes me like this beer a bit more than others of similar style.

On tap at brewery. Golden brown with a fizzy tan head. Malty raisin aroma and taste, but nothing special.

I think I’m just not a dubble kinda guy. I like the tripple but this was way too bubbly and sweet.
