3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Prufrockstar (200) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 28, 2013Last bottle of a long-forgotten 6-pack sitting in my fridge, but date on the bottle isn’t until March. Aroma of biscuit, cloves, candi, banana, dark fruit. Appearance is reddish brown; clear; ample offwhite head that leaves behind frothy lacing. Taste starts moderately sweet and then finishes nice and dry with just a hint of bitterness. Medium body, soft carbonation, creamy texture. Overall: I don’t always want a six-pack of a dubbel, but when I do, this is a fine choice.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 cyclonite (1) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAY 22, 2013 does not count
Poured from 12 oz bottle into chalice glass.
Aroma: Dark fruits and caramel with a moderately pronounced Belgian yeast flair. Nice, but a little lacking for a dubbel.
Appearance: Brilliantly clear dark copper with a 1 finger off white head that doesn’t stick around for more than 30 seconds or so. Moderate lacing, but nowhere near most Belgian dubbels.
Taste: Caramel maltiness with dark stone fruits (plum/prune, cherry), raisin, and fig, and a faint hop character in the background. Good Belgian yeast character, but not as pronounced as it could be. A small bit of peppery spice from the yeast. Slight roast on the finish. Character lacks some depth.
Palate: Medium-light body and moderate carbonation. Easy drinking, a good sessionable dubbel. Finish is just a hair on the bitter side.
Overall: Very good beer - won’t compete with an authentic Belgian dubbel, but worth going after since American dubbels are hard to find and are significantly cheaper than authentic Belgians. Flavor is better and more pronounced as it warms up a bit. Suggest 45F or so serving temperature.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 CasinoBoogie (9) - Michigan, USA - APR 19, 2013 does not count
This beer is like a desert. I has a sweet introduction, an carmel center, and a delicious afterglow. Nice.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 rangerred (662) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - APR 9, 2013
12oz bottle into a goblet.
Pours a crystal clear deep ruby with a half finger tan head that goes away farily quickly. There is some wispy lacing left on the surface with a little lace clinging to the sides of the glass.
The aroma is full of swee, dark fruits along with a little bit of roasted malt. Some clove and banana from the yeast tying everything together. A really nice smelling beer.
More roast up front than I was expecting in the flavor with dark fruit quickly following behind. Molasses and brown sugar as well. The yeast characteristics stay buried until the finish where they quickly spring forward to become the dominant flavor. There is a light bitterness and moderate sweetness on the finish but the mouthfeel is not as soft as I was hoping for.
Overall, a decent attempt at a Dubbel by New Belgium and I really think they pulled it off. It is still a little rough around the edges but for the availability and price it is hard to beat.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 crowderm (367) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 4, 2013
Clear copper pour. Aroma of dried fruit, brown sugar and a tiny bit of yeasty funk. Flavor is about the same. I like this beer, but it seems a little clean, and sanitary compared to the best belgian examples of the style. Great value though.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 GSH1976 (126) - Delaware, USA - APR 4, 2013
Pours a brownish, copper with lots of khaki colored head that dissipated quickly. If I look closely there are some particles floating around but not many. Aroma is typical for the style with yeast, spice and a little banana. Taste follows the nose. It is a good value but nothing special.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 drewaha (118) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 2, 2013
Ok double. Nothing over the top but a good value. Six pack for ten bucks. Typical Belgian yeasty smell and flavor profile. Palate is a little less carbonAted than I am accustomed to and like. But overall a nice flavor and beer that is easy to drink.
