COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.

A deep red beer with an orange head. The aroma is sweet yeasty and malty with slight notes of burnt malt. The flavor is sweet malty with quite a lot of caramel and yeast, combined with lighter spicy notes. The alcohol burns slightly in the throat, and mixes with a dry spicy end.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Slightly hazy orangey brown with a beige head. Aroma of yeast, fruit and roasted malt. Medium-bodied with some sweet, roasted malt, dried fruit and yeast. Not overly thrilling. 191206

Nut brown. Dry, bitter fruity and estery. A nice and complex succesful attempt to make a Belgian style double dark

Draught at the brewery. Clear orange coloured with a small off white ehad. Fruity aroma of caramel and spices with notes of dried fruits. Fruity and spicy flavour of caramel and dried fruits. Spicy finish. Well balanced dubbel.

fiulijn (10000) - Como, ITALY - DEC 20, 2007
Dark chestnut color; big creamy head. Delicate aroma of caramel and roasted malt, perfumy, elegant. Medium body strength; the flavor is too much monodimensional for my liking: caramel only. Professionally brewed, with a good choice of yeast.

A beautiful burgundy colour, a bubblegummy, cherry and christmas fruitcake aroma, and a palate of dark fruits, malty and a warming alcohol finish. A complex, balanced, tasty beer.
