When we set out to brew, we use imagination and salvation to guide us- not necessarily style guidelines. It’s the Belgian way. So, Ameri-Belgo and IPA both being styles, the branding begged for New Belgium whimsy to liven things up. Hmmm Belgo sounds like a Belgian disco. Hops like to party. Next thing you know, we bust out a disco-ball and brewers started groovin. Hops started hoppin. Add in an authentic Trappist yeast strain and the place brewed into a frenzy of citrus hoppy folly.

Note: Moved to the Explore Series in 2011, making it available year-round.

Poured from a bottle at market. Bright orange and clear pour. Thin white head. Citrus a peach fresh smelll. Yum. Grapefruit grass bitter hoppy taste. Has tiny Belgium style flavor. Overall a solid IPA. Would have again

Nice color. Kinda old smelling for so much hops. Same balance issues. Not great but not bad really. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Again, IPA, some nice floral sweet aroma to it. The taste is pleasant, but a bit to much of a plain bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a slightly cloudy orange with a finger and a half of coarse off-white head. Good retentions, settles into a rocky cap with some thick lacing. Aroma is hoppy up front, with bread/dough, hay, and floral tones. Flavor is mildly hoppy bitter up front, fading smoothly into citrus and mild, sweet wheat and malt, finish with slight hop/pine bitterness that linger momentarily. Moderate carbonation and medium body, with a crisp texture. A nice beer, definitely showcases IPA and belgian characteristics. This is a tasty, relatively drinkable beer. I definitely enjoyed this one.

Pours nearly clear, light honey, with a good white head. Tart-yeast aroma , citrus. Taste is yeasty, funky...a hop bitter... Decent flavouring, just doesn’t seem to blend very well for me.

Bottle. Pour is a light copper with a nice frothy head. Bready, citrus hop aroma. Flavor is right on with a unique Belgian yeast meeting a hoppy IPA. Nothing too strange going one here... all considering. Would definitly have again!

pours a light cloudy orange with a big white head. The taste is sweet citrus with a bitter after taste and a light spicyness.

Belgian aroma with IPA taste. Not bad but not good for someone that’s not an IPA fan.

Blonde with a cloudy white head. Yeast, wheat, cloves, lemon zest on the nose. BIG cloves in the flavour, along with more wheat. Nice malt and hop balance, both understated. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. More wit-like banana/clove in the finish.

Hazy dark straw with small near-white head. Head is soon gone but leaves a thin ring on top and plenty of lacing. Has a fine aroma with plenty of hops, plus hints of yeast, malt, banana, and spices. Sounds plenty Belgian in this description but actually much more like an Amer. IPA than expected. Slight downgrade to Overall rating for this departure. Body is a bit thin and a little crisp. Semi-dry. O - quite enjoyable, if not the beer I was expecting (which was something more like an Ommegang BIPA). Think of this as a Slightly Belgian IPA.
