When we set out to brew, we use imagination and salvation to guide us- not necessarily style guidelines. It’s the Belgian way. So, Ameri-Belgo and IPA both being styles, the branding begged for New Belgium whimsy to liven things up. Hmmm Belgo sounds like a Belgian disco. Hops like to party. Next thing you know, we bust out a disco-ball and brewers started groovin. Hops started hoppin. Add in an authentic Trappist yeast strain and the place brewed into a frenzy of citrus hoppy folly.

Note: Moved to the Explore Series in 2011, making it available year-round.

Bottled - it looks great - Belgo tango a la carte dededededede dedede - Seebach ruled. My very serious "friends" thinks I need to write more about this beutiful beer - wonder why. As far as I can tell it is amber with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of peaches and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of fruit, malt, spices, and peaches, leading to a bitter finish.

8.0% Clear amber beer, little white head. Light hoppy nose. Light dry palate, a little soft. Orange and grapefruit hops with a surprising undertone of banana. Aniseed. A little creamy malt. More banana in the finish and some peel in the aftertaste. Not bad.

Bottle at the Funky 6. Pours clear, yellow-gold with a medium, frothy white head. Heavy malts, caramel and honey in the aroma, with some orange citrus hops and yeasty, peppery spiciness. Flavor is very sweet with malty caramel and strong, citrus bitterness. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Quite dry in the finish with citrus rind, grapefruit hops and some mild malts. Very good beer.

A: The pour is clear pale golden in color with a frothy white head. S: A fruity hop character with a nice citrus quality to it. Mild tropical fruit notes and plenty of yeast and esters, maybe some spices, too. Sweet bready malt makes up a decent amount of the aroma. T: The flavor sort of falls flat. Not a ton of hop flavor, mostly just bitter orange peel and a touch of pine. Some yeast and a little bit of spice character. A nice bread and malt flavor, though. M: Medium bodied with carbonation a bit on the low side of medium. O: A rather nice aroma, but the flavor just fell way short.
