Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Nov 5, 2009 Sold as the Lips of Faith series. Pours an orange color with a dense white head. Aroma has a nice toasted note, light clove, some soured malt nose and a very acidic note. Flavor has a modest Brett bite, some husky grain presence, apple and lemon fruity note and with a light earthy ending. Moderate body, light texture with a very solid lacing left on the glass. Overall, for the price, this brew definitely falls short. Flavors are good but meld creating only an okay brew. Definitely not something that I want to get again. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Nov 4, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a delicately hazed, light amber body with a frothy, medium-large, white head. Meager, spotty lace on the way down.
Smell: Sweet, breadiness in the nose smelling of loaf bread lightly dipped in golden syrup. The lemon verbana brings a notable citrusy waft and underlying garden weed herbaceousness to the mix. Subdued, easy-going Brett notes all around.
Taste: Sweet, lightly bready barley rounded out with a small hint of wheat and faintly nutty oats. Medium sweetness. The added lemon verbana certainly adds a fruity, citrusy aspect to the beer, but it also gives a little sting to the tongue reminiscent of consuming ginger. Splash of sweet apple juice as well. Only rather mild Brett flavors coming through at this point with restrained touches of just-made cobwebs crafted by talking farmhouse spiders, squeaky clean saddlebags, and farm-fresh butyric acid. Semi-dry, fruity finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Fairly soft mouthfeel.
Drinkability: With its somewhat subtler Brettanomyces character it reminds me of Ommegang’s Biere de Mars release, save for the lemon verbana, natch. I’d say I would pair it with some fine cheeses, but I’d say that regarding just about anything, no, instead let’s pair it with a fresh field green salad with heirloom tomatoes, sweet onions, and a bright, refreshing lemon vinaigrette. Yes, that’ll do nicely. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 1, 2009 Sampled at the 13th Annual Knoxville Brewer’s Jam. Orange, white cover. Spicy fruity esters, pear, aroma. Taste is dusty, dry spiciness. CheersMate1 (763), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 31, 2009 22 oz. purchased at Mac’s on West Peachtree. Glad this made its way to Atlanta. Nice haze orange appearance with a head that fades away rather quickly. Malt, fruit, and slight brett aroma. Also, there is a slight spice, but I feel with this beer I am slightly having to look for the spices, but as the beer warms the spices come out. Ah, not really sure about the flavor. Rather weak flavor is you ask me. Slight brett taste towards the end. Fruity flavor with some malt backing. I feel like this one is just missing something. At times the brett comes out more than at other times. Slight lemon fruit flavor as well. Not really a huge fan of this one, but it is decent. RollinHard (748), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Oct 27, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma of grass, hay, orange, slight brett zing, old lemon, sourdough bread, and maybe some yams. Tastes malty with sourdough bread, orange, nutmeg, slight pumpkin spice, light brett to keep things funky, and leafy hops. Finishes with yam flavor on the throat, slight brett, and leafy hops. Medium bodied and drinkable. Quite nice, sessionable, and flavorful. I give this credit for being unique as I don’t think this taste muchs like any other biere de gardes (how many have I actually had?) or brett beers. 17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 27, 2009 22oz bottle shared with xnoxhatex and davinci. Pours a clear orange glowing golden with a great bit white foamy rocky froth with nice lacing. Aroma is nice brett, some apple sweetness, light bread and touch of soap. Metallic blood flavor, weird, some sharp apply sweetness with a bitter earthy yucky aftertaste. Medium bodied, corse chunky soda carbonation which dies quickly and becomes rather flat. Nice aroma... tomthompson89 (1453), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 25, 2009 dark straw color almost amber nice off white foam, nose is spicy slightly odd might be a touch off but has some farmyard notes . flavor has some sweetness and dried fruit with that same odd funkyness. intresting beer nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 25, 2009 Draft at Knoxville Brewers Jam 2009.
