COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Climb on in and grab a paddle. Our first foray into lagered beers, Blue Paddle Pilsener-Lager, is a Czech style pilsener with a refreshing crispness from noble hops and a rich, malty finish. ‘Blue Paddle’ refers to the implement our warehouse manager’s Grandma once used to lovingly paddle his a** when she caught him stealing sips of her beer. With more body than a traditional Belgian pils, Blue Paddle is reflective of Europe’s finest pilseners.

Tap at Pizza Luce. Pale appearance, didn’t know what it was, wanted the tick. Crisp on a warm day, refreshing.

Tap. Golden with decent head. Smells like dry grain with a snap. Taste follows. Not bad.

Draft at Madrone’s in Frederick, MD served in a pint glass; clear golden color with thin white head. Aroma notes of bready malt sweetness and hoppy grass. Taste adds graininess and some earthy bitterness. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp with clean finish. Pretty solid lager.

Brown bottle, world market San Francisco. Pours transparent golden with no head and light suspended bits. Scent is medium pilsener yeast with a bit of lemon tart. Taste is medium sweet with a nice herbal bite and a typical pilsener yeast. Finish is light and smooth. Good.

Many thanks to Chris for this bottle! Smooth mild but nice bittered. Czech-typical sweetish mild. The bitterness is intense, dry-mild in the end. Round and fresh, easy to drink. Nice copy of this Czech style!

Clear, golden body under a one-finger, foamy white head that did not foam away instantly. Pale malt aroma with peppery hops behind. Balanced flavor with a gentle malt sweetness giving way to fresh herbal and pepper notes that linger. Crisp, effervescent feel in the mouth while the body itself is more hearty. Good session beer. ~~~~ 12 oz. bottle from a friend at a BBQ.

Yellow fizzy stuff. Tastes like a buttery biscuit. Smells like corn. Not my preferred style. Can drink this all day.

Pours a straw color. Very clear. About one finger head. Very nice lacing and retention. Pretty well carbonated.

Aroma is hoppy. It smells like a pilsener. Nothing fancy or notable.

Taste is also like a pils. It’s hoppy, slightly malty. It’s earthy. It’s good, it’s true to form, but there’s nothing out of place. Not that that is bad. If I’m at a restaurant and I order mac and cheese and it has apple chunks in it, I would observe that as a bad thing. If it had chorizo in it, I might think of it as a good thing. Same with this, it’s nothing odd, special, or different.

Mouthfeel is quite crisp, refreshing. It’s pretty dry. It’s medium-light body. Again, nothing special. It’s true to style.

Overall, it’s good. It’s not great. But certainly a solid pils. If I were thirsty for a pilsener, I would certainly not be shy of this. Sorry Miller Lite, this is a good true pils.
