COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Climb on in and grab a paddle. Our first foray into lagered beers, Blue Paddle Pilsener-Lager, is a Czech style pilsener with a refreshing crispness from noble hops and a rich, malty finish. ‘Blue Paddle’ refers to the implement our warehouse manager’s Grandma once used to lovingly paddle his a** when she caught him stealing sips of her beer. With more body than a traditional Belgian pils, Blue Paddle is reflective of Europe’s finest pilseners.

Nice color, nice foam. Clean aroma. I very much like the Belgian-style ales from this brewery, but a Pilsener lager? Taste is very sweet. No aromatic hops (which is good). The aftertaste, however, has too much caramel sweetness. Whereas the Belgian-style ales taste very authentic, this tastes like an American micro without the oily hops. Needs to be crisper, a little more bitter. Would not take much to make it a superb pils.

A very basic beer. Pour a clear golden straw with a fizzy white head. The nose is grainy and straw with a pinch of floral and grass notes. Basic profile, light grains and cereal malts with a pinch of hops. Clean and crisp.

From the tap poured a yellow brew with a thick white head. Well balanced aromas and flavors of malt and hops. A little heavier than I like in a Pilsner, but tasty, never the less.

Pour is clear blonde. Taste is straw and mild hops. Kind of fired up my sneezes. Coincidence?

On tap at Laughing Man. Gold body with medium head. Nose is eggy, hoppy. Taste is toasty, of hops and wheat. But a rather bland beer really.

1/21/16 Washington DC (16 oz draft pour into standard pint glass). Blonde pour, nominal white head and carbonation. No aroma, somewhat sweet hop taste, nice and easy going down. Overall OK offering.

Tap. Golden with decent head. Smells like dry grain with a snap. Taste follows. Not bad.

Draft at Madrone’s in Frederick, MD served in a pint glass; clear golden color with thin white head. Aroma notes of bready malt sweetness and hoppy grass. Taste adds graininess and some earthy bitterness. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp with clean finish. Pretty solid lager.

Brown bottle, world market San Francisco. Pours transparent golden with no head and light suspended bits. Scent is medium pilsener yeast with a bit of lemon tart. Taste is medium sweet with a nice herbal bite and a typical pilsener yeast. Finish is light and smooth. Good.
