Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Good session beer. One of my go to beers when I?m out. Not my fav but very drinkable. Not too bitter with a slight citruis after tast. Good balance with slight lacing on the glass.

Lord, that "toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors" is dead-on. Hoppiness, though...not so much. Pretty average, like a baseline by which you can judge all other craft beer.

Like many, this beer was my gateway beer for craft beers. Biscuity flavor, dryer finish. Great beer to always have on hand. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Somehow not rated in past. This is the beer you but in commercial restaurants when they have crappy choices. Typical amber appearance. Standard amber flavor plus some soap. It works when you need a beer

Aromas of caramel and bread. Pours a clear orange with a very small white head. Flavors of banana, malt and yeast. Balanced but not to distinct. Fizzy. Nicely designed bottle. Doesn’t do too much for me.

I can’t believe I haven’t rated this yet. Faint coca aroma surgery malts and a fizzy finish. A pretty flat beer and probably good for people who are trying to get into Belgian beers.

Decent sized off-white head of fine bubbles with minimal carbonation. Aroma of cardboard, mild sour malts, boiled vegetables and adjunct. Color is a nice orange brown with very good clarity. Flavor is flat and synthetic. More cardboard, band aids, creamed corn, and cereal grains. Light alcohol presence. Bit of lingering sickly sweetness. Perscription for a headache the next morning. Just as bad as i remember. Highly NOT recommended!
