COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Can from systembolaget, poured light Amber with a light tanned of head. Nose of sweet caramel malts, light citrus, earth notes, caramel, dough, Bread, light hoppy finish. Dry and earthy, not a fan

Pours a hazy amber with minimal head and lacing. Nose is a biscuity malt with caramel, and just the barest hint of lemon and other floral notes. Taste is sweet malt and just a bit of spice on the end. Light bodied. Very easy drinking. Not the greatest beer in the world, but it’s affordable and good with a pitcher, pizza, and friends.

Âmbar quase translúcida, espuma amarelada de boa formação e média persistência, boa aderência. No aroma malte caramelado, leve amadeirado. Paladar de leve dulçor, baixo amargor. Corpo e carbonatação médios. Final mantém o caramelo e malte sem muita variação, um leve amadeirado, mas nada fora do normal. Desce fácil mas sem destaques.

Appearance: clear deep gold with one finger of creamy ivory head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Aroma: biscuity caramel malt, nutty, grassy/herbal, very slight butyric. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, odd-dry medium finish. (3/5) Was slightly shocked to discover I had never actually formally reviewed this one before. Fairly meh-tastic - and that’s after correcting for my general disdain for the style. Don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty easy-drinking, and despite my noting a slight butyric, it’s not actually offensive: it’s just not very interesting. Got this as part of the “Fat Tire and Friends Collabeeration Pack”, and I wish I could say I hold out high hopes for the others (I mean come on, collaborators include Allagash, Avery, and Firestone Walker) - but I don’t, much. (13/20)

Bottle in Seattle. Pale, clear brown amber. Creamy head. Pale sweet caramel malt. Pale, watery amber, odd bitter butterscotch and malt tea. I abhor the style and this is kind of the quintessential American macro example.

Its sweet, dark, caramel flavored, nutty, reminds me of what I tend to think brown ales taste like. Not a great summer beer. Maybe better in the winter. I guess I don’t understand what an amber ale is gonna taste like but this seems wrong.

Tja, det här var väl helt okej, dock hade jag kanske lite högre förväntningar än helt okej. Smaken var rätt torr och bitter med toner av torkat gräs. Balansen var bra och kroppen fyllde sin fuktion, så att säga!
