COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

The flavor of fresh baked bread (malt) and a really nice clean finish. The aroma is like my mother's kitchen with banana bread baking. This is a very good beer, perfect for those trying micro brews for the first time and to remember where we came from.

Finally got to try Fat Tire at Bonnaroo - folks raved about it there but it was never available to me in Ohio. Nice looking, a touch of spice in the aroma, mild flavor reminiscent of sweet caramel with just enough hops to keep it crisp. Surprisingly light in the mouth and the ol’ gut. Not quite as good as I had hoped after the recommendations, but tasty and drinkable on a hot and sweaty Tennessee summer day. Not something I’d buy regularly at $18/12 cans (maybe once in a while at $12-$14) but glad I got to try it.

Almost gave this beer a 4/5 stars before I realized that it was due to the sheer drinkability of the beer rather than its true complexity and quality. Indeed, this beer is easy to quaff with a slight bitterness from the hop yet thorough malty/bready flavor and true amber color.

On tap. Clear gold with nice white bubbly cap. Solid lacing. Taste is caramel, biscuit, and very gentle hops. Aroma is subtle fruit, caramel and biscuit. Very late subtle dry finish.

I remember back in 2004 my buddy Dave brought a case of this stuff back from Colorado. We thought it was amazing. Now this beer is ubiquitous in Georgia and I realize much of our excitement stemmed from hype and clever marketing. Pours a color just barely amber. The scent is grainy and slightly chemical. Flavor is just a touch sweet and very slightly bitter. Well carbonated to mask who truly common this beer is. Bottle - SunTrust Club @ Turner Field - Atlanta, GA

Had a couple of these at my friend’s place this weekend. Saw that I hadn’t rated it before. Good drinkable amber ale.

Tap at the Africa Lounge, SEATAC, 27/05/13. Clear orange amber with a good sized off white head that retains well. Nose is caramel, trace of vanilla, sugars, light spice. Taste comprises toasted malt, caramel, sugars, vanilla pod. Medium bodied, hint of bitterness in the finish. Ok drinkable beer but does little to inspire.

Nice easy drinker. Pours orange with no head or lacing. Notes of apricot, some toffee. Light sweet low bitterness. Light body.

Bottle at Lers Ros Thai in San Francisco, CA. Had to get this in SF, but other than its great appearance, it didn't do much for me.

Can from Hazel’s beverage world. Amber color, white head. Bitter taste with caramel, citrus, grass and floral hops. Bitter finish with caramel and citrus. Very nice, easy-going amber ale.

Aromas of toffee, mild chocolate, and earthy hops. Clear amber with a small, fairly lasting, off-white head. Dry, earthy, and a little chocolatey. Light bodied, crisp, and refreshing.
