Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2015 Aroma - is slightly sweet (figs, caramel, and light burnt sugar) - a little biscuity malt Appearance - amber color, clear and clean, head is initially white and about 2" tall fades out to thin sud topping. Taste - is more malty with just a bit of sweetness - with notes of dark fruit - figs and/or raisins Palate - body is in-between light and medium, texture is thin but approaching sticky, the carbonation is average with some fizz, the finish slightly bitter tang. Soaks the mouth with it’s finish. Still good. -- The aroma is mostly saying sweet, but with also a bit of caramel, not much on the way of hops. The color is an amber color with a nice fluffy off-white head. The flavor is chock full of a medley of cooked biscuit, caramel, some minor candied sweetness. And has a moderate body with a decent amount of carbonation. A nice beer overall. A - 6 Ap - 4 Ta - 7 Pa - 4 Over - 14

Bottle, from fat tire and friends mix pack. Biscuity malt aroma with some citrus hop notes and a little bit of caramel. Pours amber colored with a thin off white head that has some retention and decent lacing. Starts with biscuity malt flavors with a bit of nuttiness as well. Finishes smooth with a bit of caramel and citrus hops. Nice amber.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a thick white head. Aroma of pale bready malt, light fruits, biscuit. Flavor of toasted malt, light fruits. Basic, simple, not much to write home about but it gets the job done. 6/4/6/4/12 (3.2/5)

Nice Amber color, nice head that stays, and laces the glass. Pleasant caramel tones, and a somewhat sweet, hoppy finish. I had the draft version, looking to try the bottled version. Hope it’s as good!

Quite pleasant caramel and ester aroma. Taste on the other hand is much more empty and flat. It’s easy drinking but does not give much of fun while drinking it. It’s just ok.
