COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

This ale poured a lightly cloudy, medium amber colour with a big, foamy, off white head. Nice lacing. To the nose there are scents of grassy hops, citrus, bread and ... First sip was nice and medium bodied with flavours of nuts, caramel, toast and dough. Finish is hoppy and a little bitter with the toasted malt lingering.

Nice looking pour. No real standout qualities. It does have nice amber color.

Can. Clear amber, airy offwhite head. Malty, bready aroma with hints of honey. Flavour has some earthy hops, caramel and peppery spice. Dry and crisp, a little rough.

12 fl oz can. Clear pale copper in the glass. Small head. Malt and bready on the nose. Taste has some belgian malt influences included a sweet fruityness with orange and citrus. Hop is in the background but present. Nice.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2016 Drank straight from the bottle on a hot sticky night in Alabama, so anything cold would be welcomed. Still, it was smooth and refreshing with a light taste and no bitterness. I suspect the heat makes this seem better than it really is...

Pours amber with light white head. Aroma is vegetables, some sweet fruits, carrot, some rubber, toffee. Taste is oily, creamy, pie, some biscuits, light bitterness, corn, malts. Very oily after taste. Quite light and interesting beer.

Very well made Amber Ale. Close to perfect balance between the malty and sweet body meeting the hoppy and bitter flavors to create an extremely tasty brew with a nice, long aftertaste.

I had it from the bottle. The taste is up front with malt. It’s caramel and honey with hints of grain. It’s pretty dry and crisp. This was pretty clean and sessionable. It didn’t really stand out though.

Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Pours clear honey. White head. Aroma is typical light cream ale, beer. Flavor is similar. Ehh. Not good.

Bottle. Crisp and malty but lacking in oomph. I can remember this being better the last time I was in the States to try it, but then again that was following a glass of Lone Star so was bound to be taste fairly good after that!
