stchloe (477), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 10, 2009 Seriously weird. I really didn’t care for this beer and I normally like experimental brews. But seriously no one puts a slice of lemon in their coffee, this is just an extension. kmweaver (2397), Sebastopol, California, USA Sep 3, 2009 12oz bottle, safely stored in the fridge for any number of months by my mother-in-law, who mistakenly thought this was mine. Thanks! Pours a slightly reddish-tinted, cola color; off-white head with good retention and tight, mixed-bubbled lacing; solid pour. Bitter chocolate, one-dimensional citrus acidity, and medium roast coffee in the aroma; bitter coffee takes the most prominent note, with a light caramel sweetness underneath. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: heavy amounts of bitter coffee with high acidity and citrus notes; well-balanced with a sweet malt core that prevents this from being overly bitter; the front end is a big dose of coffee, followed by caramel, followed by sugar and toasted malts; a drinkable, well-bodied coffee beer; high levels of carbonation with just a touch of abrasiveness. Well-handled. Lengthy finish of medium-roast coffee, citrus, and lasting caramel sweetness. Tasty. darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2009 from old rating note: got this at some point on pacific n.w. trip. deep copper pour with white head. fantastic smells of fresh roasted coffee and caramel. dry toasty coffee in the taste - with hint of lemon. thin to medium tingly texture. K6.5 DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Jun 2, 2009 12 oz. bottle. I kept putting this off, worried that after my late night tasting sessions, I might not be able to sleep. Well, I’ve got a cranky 16 month-old baby to handle that for me. Interesting dark copper to nut brown color, thick spongy brownish head. Smell is of a Belgian wit, but with more caramel malts, and spices that are like the brewmaster just felt like emptying the pantry on brewday. So no obvious coffee smell. Coffee in the taste just builds slowly, letting the chewy malts and lemon get their say first. Halfway through, I’ve decided the coffee will never come to the fore, but with just feel like the aftertaste of an iced Americano. But that just helps set this apart from other coffee beers. I’m finding it pretty likable. Would like to see this offered in more of the places carrying other NB beers. Dubbercody (214), Vancouver, Washington, USA May 15, 2009 Nice copper color that has a bubbly creamy light tan head. Smells of coffee, and true the lemon does come out a wee bit in the nose, but is definitely more prominent in the aftertaste. The espresso adds a nice character to the flavor and drinkability of this brew.
Part of the Folly pack I picked up when I was out on the Oregon Coast. Wasn’t sure what to make of it...but I knew I wouldn’t be let down by the other three offerings in the pack.
Seriously, I think I could really like or really hate this been depending on the day. Today, it falls into the I like side of the fence.
It’s akin to iced coffee, that someone snuck a lemon wedge into thinking it was iced tea. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2009 So I am sick of everytime i’m thirsty for beer, coffee, and lemonade, I am stuck buying three different beverages. Not anymore!
This is a very unique and drinkable beer. While it is slightly too thin for me, the coffee and lemon flavors pair very nicely, the coffee hits on the front end, then finishes very clean with the lemon. You wouldnt think it works, but it really does.
SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Apr 3, 2009 a weird one from old belgium .. light toffee and empty doffee mug aromas .. . some light coffee flavours with an alien backdrop .. . abv well hidden .. no citrus detected really .. . tasty but it needs direction .. more umph... good effort though, happy to have tried it .. . markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Mar 16, 2009 Bottle from trade with valpodogs. Pours a copper/ amber with an off-white head. Nose is coffee, some earth, and a barely noticeable citrus peel. Coffee dominates the flavor with balancing malt, and citrus in the background. Flavor meshes well overall, and leads to an interesting beer.
