Gobs of Riverbend Malt House’s rye, paired with heaps of Simcoe, Galaxy, Cascade, and Mosaic hops, make for one great RYE IPA. Expect some nice spicy notes and aromas to take flight.

Bomber bottle. Orange amber color, with very light orangish head that dissipates slowly with no lacing. Taste is perfect balance of malt and hops. Bitterness is a little earthy, touch of citrus, a bit of spicy rye evident. Medium bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a delicious IPA!

nice combo of hops and rye in this bad boy, and another solid addition to the hop kitchen series. spicy rye, earthy hops and a dash of tropical fruit from the mosaic. Covers the abv.

Aroma is fruit, citrus, mild Cascade tea and a hint of spice. The flavor is Cascade tea, rye, citrus, light grapefruit, fruit/blackberry, mild earthiness and a bit of hop resin/bitterness in the finish.

Pours a hazy orange with minimal head. Some spice and grassy hops in the nose. Lots of rye spice and of course the earthy hops are dominant. A decent drinker from NB. Hope to see more of these around instead of the Lips of faith series.

Bomber. Pours a clear brownish copper color. Big 2 finger tan heads leaves some decent lacing. Aromas are toasty rye malt and earthy hops. Taste is rather dry, a bit sweet, and bready. Some light spice from the rye and a touch of alcohol round this out.

On tap at the Cork & Tap (SC). Clear medium amber with a decent head that leaves little lacing. Feel: Medium-light body with near medium carbonation; seems too thin. Aroma: herbal/floral hops with faint malts. Flavor: hops, floral and herbal, with well proportioned spicy notes from the rye. O: a good version of style, but not quite up to New Belgium’s standard.

Bomber purchased at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa ($4.97). Pours a cloudy dark amber hue with two fingers of off-white foam leaving some good lacing. AROMA of quite spicy rye bread with lesser notes of citrus, pine, cedar, earthy hops, and caramel malts. FLAVOR similarly has some sharp spicy rye notes, resinous hops, honey/caramel malts, pine needles, and fruit. Finishes moderately bitter with a nice balancing slightly sweet maltiness. Rather full bodied. I like the fact that the rye is really big and noticeable here, unlike some of the other RyePA’s that I have tried. (74, 885)
