Fairly standard pale ale with a bit of rye. Not a bad beer, but not an exciting beer.

Bottle at Evernote in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is mild pine, some peppered earth. Taste is a pretty straight-forward IPA. Mild flavors with some wet murky mossy notes.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours clear amber with frothy white head. Aroma carries effervescent bitter grapefruit citrus with hints of sappy spruce. Flavor sweet and rounded with a quick bitter edge. The carbonation cuts the palate short but leaves a small amount of citrus.

Poured into a chalice. Nice caramel appearance with a hint of redness. Minimal head. Aroma is hard to identify but has some hay and earthy scent, but definitely there is a hint of BO in there. And now for the taste. This beer is absolutely astringent, bordering on acrid. There are no significant flavors to offset this IPAs bitter character. It takes a special blend of aromas and flavors to make a good IPA, and in my opinion NB fell flat on this one as they do with most of their IPA efforts.

12-ounce bottles, poured into a large mug. Somewhat typical of an IPA from a really good brewery. Still not my style, too bitter.

A solid rye IPA. Aroma was good. The rye and malt mixed well with the earthy hop smells. Pour was a nice medium gold with light amber hues and a thin off white film for a head. Taste was good. Nice and bitter with the rye bringing out some good spiciness. Finish had a hint of rye piggybacking on the strong earthy and bitter hop backbone. Nice carbonation

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours clear Amber brown with not much of a head. Leaves a rim with some lacing. Aroma is mild. Some rye grain and piney hops. Maybe a whiff of citrus. Taste is a rye malt bomb. Rye grain upfront with a steep drop off of bitterness out back. Dry mouthfeel. Not great - seems a rush job.
