3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the Cork & Tap (SC).
Clear medium amber with a decent head that leaves little lacing.
Feel: Medium-light body with near medium carbonation; seems too thin.
Aroma: herbal/floral hops with faint malts.
Flavor: hops, floral and herbal, with well proportioned spicy notes from the rye.
O: a good version of style, but not quite up to New Belgium’s standard.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber purchased at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa ($4.97). Pours a cloudy dark amber hue with two fingers of off-white foam leaving some good lacing. AROMA of quite spicy rye bread with lesser notes of citrus, pine, cedar, earthy hops, and caramel malts. FLAVOR similarly has some sharp spicy rye notes, resinous hops, honey/caramel malts, pine needles, and fruit. Finishes moderately bitter with a nice balancing slightly sweet maltiness. Rather full bodied. I like the fact that the rye is really big and noticeable here, unlike some of the other RyePA’s that I have tried. (74, 885)

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very earthy, malty aroma with a slight vegetal component, but no big hop nose. Clear, medium copper/amber with a fluffy eggshell head. There is a distinct hop bite and dryness in the flavor which is mellowed by a creamy, bready body. The alcohol while not huge here definitely shows through with a drying bite. There’s also a noticeable spiciness present which could be rye or hops (or both). Finishes lightly sweet with a lastly dry burn in the back of the throat. This is definitely more in the English style of IPAs with a stronger malt presence. Interesting and tasty.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
A dark orange almost brown, this was really quite good. Has a certain heaviness you don’t usually find in IPAs. The flavor is hoppy, grainy and very tasty. Excellent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Nice head, sticky lacing.   Amberish in color.   Soft pithy start, moderate hoppiness.   A little bit of citrus peel.   Faint Rye.   Not real bright.   Softer IPA, or is the RyePA.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Decent, wished it were a bit brighter tho.

Pint on tap. Clear orange-copper with a lasting ring of foam. Aroma of citrus, resin and caramel. Tastes the same with a touch of toasted grain on the finish. Light-medium body has medium-high carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bright hops--tart and well balanced. Taste mosaic hops first. Different flavor with the rye. Great Sunmer beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very slightly hazy golden and straw coloured body with a glow of light bronze and a thinnish, single centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of rye (no surprise there), grass, sage, oregano and some rather herbal hops - nice all around and not too pungent with the rye. Medium-bodied; Assertive rye flavour at first with a definite grain flavour, some herbal and grassy hops and a perfumey kick of spices near the end showing the sage and mint at the finish. Aftertaste is more rye, grassy and herbal than anything else, although a light hop bitterness and some touches of sweetness come out at the very end. Overall, a nice rye-based IPA with not much hops noticeable and not too much complexity, but the balance of rye is nice and not overpowering, while the other herbs make this interesting! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 07-April-2014 for US$4.99 sampled at home in Washington on 10-July-2014.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Copper, clear, with a thin ring of foam. Smells toasty, with notes of peppery, piney hops. Taste is woody hops, some slick malts, and a dry finish. Nothing complicated, but tasty.
