Gobs of Riverbend Malt House’s rye, paired with heaps of Simcoe, Galaxy, Cascade, and Mosaic hops, make for one great RYE IPA. Expect some nice spicy notes and aromas to take flight.

A dark orange almost brown, this was really quite good. Has a certain heaviness you don’t usually find in IPAs. The flavor is hoppy, grainy and very tasty. Excellent.

Bottle:   Nice head, sticky lacing.   Amberish in color.   Soft pithy start, moderate hoppiness.   A little bit of citrus peel.   Faint Rye.   Not real bright.   Softer IPA, or is the RyePA.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Decent, wished it were a bit brighter tho.

Pint on tap. Clear orange-copper with a lasting ring of foam. Aroma of citrus, resin and caramel. Tastes the same with a touch of toasted grain on the finish. Light-medium body has medium-high carbonation.

Bright hops--tart and well balanced. Taste mosaic hops first. Different flavor with the rye. Great Sunmer beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very slightly hazy golden and straw coloured body with a glow of light bronze and a thinnish, single centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of rye (no surprise there), grass, sage, oregano and some rather herbal hops - nice all around and not too pungent with the rye. Medium-bodied; Assertive rye flavour at first with a definite grain flavour, some herbal and grassy hops and a perfumey kick of spices near the end showing the sage and mint at the finish. Aftertaste is more rye, grassy and herbal than anything else, although a light hop bitterness and some touches of sweetness come out at the very end. Overall, a nice rye-based IPA with not much hops noticeable and not too much complexity, but the balance of rye is nice and not overpowering, while the other herbs make this interesting! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 07-April-2014 for US$4.99 sampled at home in Washington on 10-July-2014.

Copper, clear, with a thin ring of foam. Smells toasty, with notes of peppery, piney hops. Taste is woody hops, some slick malts, and a dry finish. Nothing complicated, but tasty.

From a 22 oz bottle on the Fourth of July. Pours a clear copper with an off white head. Fruity nose. Flavors of grass and grain with some citrus. Bitter finish.

Bomber from Sonoma Cellars in Oconomowoc. Now noticing what looks to be a "best by" June 5th date. No year. Pours a clear coppery amber with an off-orange head leaving some wrap around lacing. Aroma has sour fruits (dead hoppage?), sweet rye grain, some sweet fruits, citrus, pine and heavy caramel. Taste is of sweet fruits, sprucy pine, heavy resin, some solid caramelly malt backbone and some dry rye grain. Medium bodied and bone dry. Finishes sweetly and rye/dry, with some underlying bitterness. A solid rye brew. Not sure if 2 months ago it was better? 13.8

Lagerboy (1182) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 8, 2014
Bomber. Cloudy orange brown, lasting off-white foam. Sharp aroma of earthy hoppy rye and sprucey fruit. Spicey hoppy rye taste, evergreen, backseat c-malts gives way to juicy tropical fruits, some citrus, slightly floral, light bitterness. Average carbonation, medium bodied, more aggressively hopped. Love this style, but it’s still: NFL (Not For Lagerboys)
