3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 chinchill (571) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 4, 2013
Notes from 2012 Fall for Greenville New Belgium tasting session.
Plenty of hop aroma.fresh, fruity, and clean. Complex hop mix, with fruity, herbal and floral aspects, but featuring citrus with lemon, orange, lime and grapefruit, in that order. A hint of charred weed. Very pleasant and fruity.
T: More hops than malt, for sure, yet balanced only slightly more bitter than sweet. Quite fruity with some orange peel and earthy hops in the lingering aftertaste.
M: well carbonated; medium-light body. A bit of dryness in the clean finish.
Overall: Definitely better (and fruitier!) than expected, especially for style. Easy drinking and would make for an excellent session beer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 OKplus (355) - Oklahoma, USA - MAR 29, 2013
A - This beer has a clear golden body with a 3/4 inch tight white head. Small patches of lacing.
S - Grassy hops with notes of straw, oranges, honey, floral spice on top of a sweet malt base.
T - Starts off with a green grassy bitterness that turns to candy grapefruit sweetness. A prevalent malt backbone adds character that blends and balances all the green together. There’s some tartness towards the end that adds good dimension. Finishes dry and spicy.
M - Light to medium body average carbonation.
One of the best I’ve had of this style. Love the hop profile and the malt is actually what makes this a winner. The burps taste like leafy green hops. Top of the line.

Where did this beer come from? I tried it at an Oktoberfest tasting and expected something very different., anticipating an incorrect labeling. The label is correct and this is a pretty solid golden. Dry, with some light citrus sweetness and spices. Golden appearance.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 HighWine (836) - Whalesbro, Illinois, USA - SEP 13, 2012
Tap in a New Belgium chalice. Chocolate brown color with a thin white head. Green coffee bean aroma. Taste is roasty and slightly sweet caramel malt with a big citrus hop presence. Lemon and like perfume fill the mouth. Medium mouthfeel, slightly creamy. This isn't a golden but they've got it labeled as Hoptober and it's surprisingly good.
