Five hops and four malts make Hoptober Golden Ale a veritable cornucopia of earth. Pale and wheat malt are mashed with rye and oats to create a medium-bodied ale with creamy mouth feel. Where did this beer come from? I tried it at an Oktoberfest tasting and expected something very different., anticipating an incorrect labeling. The label is correct and this is a pretty solid golden. Dry, with some light citrus sweetness and spices. Golden appearance.

The head is ok, the nody dark brown. It smells hoppy and a bit grassy. The taste is very hoppy, bitter-aromatic, malty, a bit grassy-dry. Nice one! 11/12/12/12/11/12

Draft from Green Leafe Newtown. Pours coppery dark straw with off-white head. Nose was marzeny malt, substantial hops, mild earthy nutty notes. Tasted malty, marzeny, with a big hop flavor and a complex finish.

Draft at quaker steak. Pours brown with a thin head. Not much on the nose. A bit of malt and hop astringency on the tongue. Clean finish. Eh!

Tap in a New Belgium chalice. Chocolate brown color with a thin white head. Green coffee bean aroma. Taste is roasty and slightly sweet caramel malt with a big citrus hop presence. Lemon and like perfume fill the mouth. Medium mouthfeel, slightly creamy. This isn't a golden but they've got it labeled as Hoptober and it's surprisingly good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Medium carbonation, dark gold/copper, some lacing. Aroma is nutty/grainy . Flavor, initial malt with medium hoppiness lingering at the end. The mix of flavors is too competative in this beer. If it leaned more in one direction or the other it would improve. Medium body. Nothing to write home about.
