Commercial Description:
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

Bottle thanks to Lumpy. The look is red hazy with a little white head. Nice lacing. The smell is cherry, fruit, oak, tart, wine, wood. The taste is sour, tart, fruit, great. Nice and dry. Awesome beer.

Bottle thanks to Lumpy. All I can say is WoW!!! Aroma of strong brett, tangy, makes your nose hairs stand up. Flavor is great, sour, very sour, grapes, brett. Mouthfeel wise, this stuff almost evaporates on your tongue, very interesting, very fizzy. Overall, one of my new fav’s. Great stuff!

Bottle -C&C- from Bottle Barn. Ruby amber color with a tan head that fizzed away at once. Aromas of sour over oak. Flavor is sour cherry with astringent oak. It’s not acidic sour. It’s lightly funky sour. There’s a lot of fruit mixed in with the sour. Tartly refreshing. I have no idea what other ale this resembles. I could say Flemish sour, but it’s not really exactly. Goes down quite a treat. Yum!

bottle at Ft Wayne locals tasting - Pours reddish-brown and it definitely smells like brett along with some tart cherry notes. The sour flavor balances the fruit notes well with the brett characteristics. It’s not overpowering in any aspect. It’s very good though it didn’t blow me away. I’d love to get another chance to try it and take some more time. Rerate at the latest Ft Wayne tasting - My notes are very similar to my first rating. Really tart beer. Very good. 7/4/8/4/16

750ml bottle:2008 vintage. Tart fruity aroma, tan head, brown color. Thanks Sean. Sours are my favorites and this is at the top of the list. The age really shows well as no one element over powers another.the complex fruit profile seems different with each taste. Awesome beer!

(11/4/08) Draught at Hamilton’s in San Diego. Dark reddish-brown color. Aroma of barnyard, citrus, some sour cherries, a bit of other fruits and sweaty notes. Sour flavor with brett, some cherries notes, lemon and a bit of malt. Rounded mouthfeel. Wonderful stuff.
