Commercial Description:
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a small off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of sour cherries, oak, spicy brett, vinegar, and some earthy notes. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium thin mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and moderate to stong amount of acidity. Very good.

Courtesy of Juart. Pours a deep slightly hazy copper color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is a sour medicinal cherry. The flavor is a little earthy and it seems like it will start sweet, but the sour cuts through quickly. Very mineraly with some fruity funk. The body is thin and it is sort of strangely refreshing. Leaves a very sour flavor on the palate.

Bottle 3 years old enjoyed in 2008. Pours an amber beer with an off white head. Sour fruity esters, a light woodiness with a salty berry flavor. awesome beer with a light mouthwatering acidity.

Bottle was a gift from Hank and Mary for my 41st bday. The aroma is very woody, though not as much oak as I expected. Also smell sour apples, a bit of cherry, and yeast. Pours very carbonated with medium thickness and a thin, tan head. There is a little lace, but it diminishes quickly. It definitely hits the tongue sour. It is not as sour as other guezes that I have had. The taste has sour apples, vinegar, and the oak. I appreciate one other reviewers note that this the sour is not balanced by fruit but by malts. A very nice beer!

Very sour, not really funky. Very woody, lemony, tart, a little astringent. Not over done in any area. Had it by itself, but would love to pair it with cheese. The lemon qualities I found could also be compared to tart raspberries.

Im very impressed. In a blind tasting, I might have thought this was something from Cantillon. Pours a beautiful ruby brown, with a head that disappears quickly. Aroma has tart cherries, grapefruit, a bit of dusty funk and lots of acidity - theres a bit of straight vinegar in there. What Im not used to is the sweet malt undertone. Im so used to sours being countered with sweet fruit (raspberry, etc) - while this one has fruit in it, the balance comes from malts. The oak comes through in the flavor - nice touch. Makes you pucker, but totally in-bounds, and I think my favorite part was in the aftertaste - theres just a bit of toasted hazelnut that shows up several seconds after the other notes fade. Very good - an entirely successful interpretation.

Hazy brown with medium beige head. Sourish aroma with roasted malt, caramel, woody and lacto notes. Sour flavour with note of grapefruits, vinegar, barnyard and woody notes. Sour finish wich reminded me of a solid gueuze. Like that one very much.
