Commercial Description:
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

750ml, 2005 bottle. Enjoyed at the James Taylor concert with friends. Orange-amber pour with a light white head. The aroma is quite nice. Gets you excited for the sour goodness to come. Make no mistake. This is a demanding brew. If you are not ready for the sourness that awaits you, you are in for a surprising shock. Out of 6 people that tried it, only 3 wanted more. The other 3 had comments along the lines of, “That is the nastiest thing I have ever had in my life.” I, fortunately, enjoyed the heck out of this. The sourness is balanced with a touch of sweetness deep down and buried under all that funky sour. There are under-rip fruit notes and other goodness that I did not comment on. The point is, that this is a celebration of all that is Flemish sour. GET ME MORE!

Bottle shared by Taverner, pours nice mahogany with minimal head. Nose is sour and funk along with cherries. Flavor is similar, plus the influence of tart apples and oak nuttiness in the finish. Very nice sour.

It’s definitely a sour. I can taste sour apples, jolly ranchers, tannins and woody notes. Pours amber with a thin white head. Full of various sour flavors like apples and apircots.

On tap from PP C-Bad. Brown amber color with a thin white head. Aromas of yeast and tartness. Very luscious and smooth with a medium body in your mouth. Flavors of some maltiness and tart sour cherry and apple. Great long easy finish without being over the top. Great beer for sure.

Intoxicating aromas of mashed sour cherries, pie crust and some lovely spices. Aggressive on the tongue. An immediate shot of raw brown sugar mellowing to a tart cherri and finally to a cherry pie reminicent of the aromatic picture! I’ll have another!

Bottle 12629; 11/07: Courtesy of mgumby10, big thanks Mike. Murky, puddle-water color with a small cream head. Very intense aroma...light fruits, dark malts, oak and the acidity was very well represented but not in a vinegar kind of way. There also seemed to be a subtle earthiness representation noted as well. First taste led to a mouth puckering, tart body with almost nothing else to note...this led to the following tastes where the beauty of this comes through. The sour aspect is there but works with the rest of the brew, instead of against it...some of the dark malts come through with some rhubarb and dark tea leaves. Unbelievable brew.

04 bottle. Thanks 7up2liter. Pours an orange brown with a thin white head. Crusty vag aroma, some vinegar, some paint thinner. Barnyard flavor, some vinegar, a few bits of aids. Kind of reminds me of chewing on a horses tail while it shits in my mouth. finishes extremely sour, refreshing.
