rayOfBeer (316), El Cerrito, California, USA Feb 28, 2008 Poured from bottle at beerapalooza mardi gras, an opaque brown with off-white firm head. Aroma of sour grass and cherries with a slight earthiness. It tastes like mouth puckering, tart sour grass and cherries that slowly grows smoother with a malty sweetness and a woody vanilla. Definitely not a food beer. This one is an aperitif or dessert all the way. Nice one. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 27, 2008 Pucker up!!! Beautiful beer: Served on Tap @ Papago Brewery, Phoenix into a snifter. Color is overcooked caramel with a massive eggshell head. Aroma is sharp cherry and mellow oak. The flavor is indicative of a cherry Jolly Rancher, and although the barrel aging doesn’t necessary make itself obvious on the palate, it does smooth this one out significantly. Very tasty and different...would try again. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Feb 25, 2008 (Bottle 07-6791).
Appearance: Pours a hazed brown body with a small, fizzy, off-white head.
Smell: Tart-smelling sour cherry aroma with notes of seasoned wood, earthy funk, and a neutral graininess.
Taste: Immediately sour and tart with a blackberry and cherry-like fruitiness. Slightly tannic oakiness and a bit of funk encountered. Fleeting flash of malts. Two drops of Worcestershire sauce. Bracing acidity. Finishes dry with a long-lived tart, fruit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Fine carbonation.
Drinkability: There hasn’t been anything this tart yet still wonderfully balanced and easily drinkable in my mouth in a long, long, LONG time. A lovely beer. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 23, 2008 May 2007 - Beer pours deep dark caramel color with nice head and lacing. Strong aroma of vinegar and cherries. Rich full flavor, very sour cherry flavor with that horseblanket lambic flavor. I would have thought this was a fruit lambic over a flemish sour. Very strong...but a slow sipper. wj94 (64), Virginia, USA Feb 18, 2008 Aroma of strong cherries, oak. Pour is dark brownish/red with a quickly-fading head. Tastes much like I expected - very tart/sour bite that really attacks your taste buds (in a good way), highly carbonated, somewhat sweet with a sour finish. I like this one jessbnjess (15), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 13, 2008 Bottle shared by maxxdaddy during the Giants superbowl win! Poured dark amber with a lot of beige head. Aroma is sour (just as I expected and hoped for) with a little bit of vinegar. The flavor was also sour and fruity with a hint of cherries. Very glad I’ve had the chance to enjoy the regular La Folie and the 10th Anniversary edition now. mtoast (290), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 10, 2008 75cL bottle courtesy of Lukin013 at Pittsburgh gathering on 1/27/08. Deep amber color, not much foam. Big woody aroma, lots of oak and tart cherries. Flavor is hugely sour, borderline vinegar sour, almost masks the rest of the flavor. Almost one dimensional. gotbeach (128), San Diego, California, USA Feb 9, 2008 07Bottle@Dr.Bills Cloudy yellow pour with a small thin head. Sour, tart cherry aroma. Tasted sour, fruity, and tart, yet very refreshing. High carb. This beer comes alive on your tongue with friut, and has a great aftertaste. Very tasty.
Also tasted single barrel 10 special blend which was only slightly better.
