Commercial Description:
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

Bottle from Toronado. Cloudy reddish brown, moderate head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is sour cherries, wood, vanilla, acidic, you know the drill. Medium bodied, moderate to high acidity, moderate sweetness. Enjoyable and straightforward sour. Not as sour as some of the reviews have made me believe, but it’s still fairly sour.

Bottle 06-1166. Minimal bubbles and skiff. Dark orange-brown. Huge decaying sour nose. Sharp sour edge to flavour. Wood. Lemon touch. Smooth not harsh. vinegary and lemon. Less sour than expected, doesn’t sink into the teeth roots. Still a sipper capable of some shivers.

Sampled at the RBPG; bottle courtesy of lukin013. Sour malty cherry skins, smooth. Hops, light caramel. Deep vinuous aroma. Deep chestnut brown clear with thin off-white head. Smooth palate, velvety. Smooth tart fruity taste, light acidity, not harsh. Nice malt, with oak. Great fruity malt finish with light bitter after. I really like sour ales and this is a nice one; could probably chill out for a bit more time and be even better.

This is so close to perfection it’s unbelievable. I bet had I had a full 12 oz glass it would’ve got a perfect rating so I gotta get my hands on a bottle of this. Aroma was strong sour cherry. Pour was a nice dark gold with a thin off white ring for a head. Taste was mouth puckering perfection. Sour cherries, vinegar and a hint of wood in the front. The nice carbonation leaves a sour bitey aftertaste. I’ll back up my fellow Pittsburghers below me. This was amazing.

Had the pleasure of sampling this at the 1/27/2008 Pittsburgh ratebeer.com gathering upstairs, Sharp Edge Creekhouse. It will be a long time, if ever I am invited again and I see a spread of bottles like I did there - ever again. I am not good enough for the beers that were that we sampled! For example, how about this beer; La folie bought by John, lukin, lukin013! Really good lambic sour and tart aroma. Clear and almost pinkish in color. Good tingly carbonation that is welcomed and accepted! Beuatifully sour and tart on the palate. Quite impressive on the taste buds. Slightly wooden background and heavily roped. Very tart and this stuff boders on the flavors of a gueuze lambic. Very enjoyable, thanks John!! lukin013, I owe you one. There is a fine line between real lambics and sour ales. As zebracakes says, top notch!

Bottle sampled at the Ratebeer meet-up 01.27.08 at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse. Beer courtesy of lukin013.

Orange ruby, white head. Aroma is tangy, tart, peppery. Flavor is the same and has a really nice tart, sour, tangy bite. Top notch!
