Commercial Description:
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

’05 version... Appears a hazy red toned amber with a small white head that fades out into a small cap. Smell is oaky, earthy, with tart cherries, spree candy, perhaps a touch of papaya somwhere in there...heavenly. Taste is of the same aromas with a spicy, wild bite that is outstanding. The oak is subdued enough that it brings out all of the tart, meaty characteristics that make this beer a winner. This is very much to the liking of Rodenbach Grand Cru, only better. There must be some magic on those Rodenbach barrels b/c everything that goes inside of them, comes out enticing my palate and making me want more and more. Mouthfeel is spritzy, sugary, tart, balanced, and medium bodied. Really nice. I’m sure this will be in my personal top 10 for a while.

From the Coulmbus tasting, shared by moejuck! Dirty orange pour with an off-white head. Aroma of brett, sour cherries, funk and oak. The flavor was sour, with some woodiness and some funk. Acidic and tart over the tounge. Pretty neat stuff.

I can’t decide whether I hate or love this beer. A departure from anything I’ve ever tried before. Had a sample at the brewery, at first it had me puckered up. I think it might be okay a glass at a time, but I’m not sure I could drink very much of this in one setting.

On tap at the Falling Rock as part of the GABF 06 festivities. Really cool looking reddish brown. Served with not head, or even indication of head. A lot going on in the nose. Tart cherry, brett funk, wood, nail polish remover. It about put me down when I took the first drink. Huge rush of tart sourness. Certainly not for the timid. Those that take the challenge with will be nicely surprised.

750 at the Falling Rock Tap House, Denver, CO after the first GABF session. Pours a reddish brown with a large off white head. The carbonation is lively on this beer. Aroma is tart fruit, specifically cherries for the most part. Taste is tart fruit also, with tons of Brett and sourness, tart finish. Not sure if it was worth the money, but it was good.

Enticing acetic and fruit aroma,(looks like I’ll need my tums for this one) taste is smooth , fruity, sour tangy, tart plum,a little thinner then I thought it would be. It loses some of its fruitness as you drink it,still an excellent Flemish Sour,it is however too pricey to buy often, Rodenbach is as good and cheaper

Draft at the Liar’s Bar in Mission Beach, CA. Very shocked to see this on draft! pours a dark brown color with minimal head. Fruity aroma, with cherries and apples. Tangy, tart taste. Somewhat sour, but not like I was expecting. Very interesting beer and glad to finally drink it!

Bottle. Very "bright" and yet very sour. A pale brown color with a light thin head. Not much to talk about besides the sourness which reminds me of Bing cherries, Granny Smith apples and Jolly ranchers. Some horsiness to go with it. Yet I coould see sitting up with a good book and drinking this all night long.
