COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach Ė home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peterís beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

22oz. Had this many times so thought I would rate it today. pours reddish brown wiith good carbonation. Moderately sour, woody and earthy with some apple/cherry fruitiness. This is a good gateway sour for newbies. Iíve heard the prices vary a lot but near me at $16 nearly double a Rodenbach, and with many other better choices I will go for something else.

Keg at the Green Dragon, PDX, 11/11/14. Rich burgundy to chestnut brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is tarte cherries, musty, dank semi rotting woody notes, earthy, light fruit balsam tunes. Taste comprises rich oak, tarte red grape, dank, musty tones, funk, tangy and bitter red berry notes, apple core, farmyard. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, red berry rinse and semi puckerings at the close. Solid stuff.

Hazy brown thin tan head. Aroma is woody, sour, grapes. Taste starts sour then is effervescent and like a barrel age wine. Tart finish. Nicely done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 edition. Reddish brown with a thin bubbly head. So very sour smelling. Lemon, wood, mild funk, and purple grape really shows up in the aroma. Taste is the same but better. Really dig the grape. So very suck your face in sour....... Tart is an under statement. Pretty simple taste. Cherry?? The oak is very noticeable. like this for the style........... why do I like this style now? Why?

On tap at Rayís Place, Kent, OH. Dark translucent brown color with thin off-white head and no lacing. Aroma and flavor are sweet with raisins, light fruits, and minimal caramel malts. Good, but simple. Itís a nice sour, but cannot compare to the best. This is like the Bud Light of Sours, itís just meh. Overpriced in the bottles, but much cheaper per glass at Rayís, so worth the try.

Pours a murky reddish brown with a one finger off white head with decent lacing. Aroma is of sour apples, vinegar, wood, cherries, light dark bread, and lacto. Taste is Sour apple and cherries, woody notes, vinegar, sour lacto, wet hay, toasted dark bread, and light earth grass. Has a medium-full body with a creamy mouthfeel and a almost bone dry, pretty sour, medium-long finish. Overall, a very tasty, complex sour brown.

What one expects in a sour ale is present in aroma and taste with both being dominated by earthy bright sourness reminiscent of tart lemonade with various outdoor sour notes. Looks decent and the palate while thin and what youíd expect is nice. However I could not finish this beer. It was boring and one-note. Sour dominates leaving no hint of grain or vestiges of the base beer. Itís simply one note thatís to loud, too strong, itís the only thing you get from this beer. It is an orchestra dedicated to playing one note, all together continuously, loudly, obnoxiously. I think it would be great as a blend with other brews. Seriously disappointed with this ílegendaryí 100 pt brew. One of the less pleasing beer experiences Iíve had.

On tap at The Tap Room -- poured into an English pint glass. Almost no head on top of a dark ruby colored beer. Smell of lacto, cherry, hint of wood. Flavor is a cherry fruit, followed by heavy lacto sourness. Not quite so sour you tingle in the cheeks, but almost. This is a great sour.

On draft (2014?) at Chuckís bottle shop. Orange brown color, with a medium amount of white head. Slightly cloudy. Lace lingers a bit. Aroma of caramel, very little hops, fallen leaves, cranberry, cherry. Starts sour, and then sweet, with a sour finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, slightly oily texture, a little metal with a fairly long finish. Nice beer!

650 mL bomber dated 2014. Crystal clear garnet with a short lived head of off white foam. Very nice to look at. Malt forward on the nose with dark bread, light caramel, subtle toastiness, some dark fruit as well. Malty-sweet at first and quickly cut by a bracing lactic sourness, no hints of acetic yet. Finishes with a rounded Dutch cocoa tone. Dry and very tart with moderate plus carbonation. Very good, could certainly withstand a half a decade of aging to round it out.
