COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged, sour brown spends one to three years in big, oak barrels, known as foeders. And when the beer finally hits the glass, La Folie is sharp and sour, full of green apple, cherry, and plum-skin notes. Pouring a deep mahogany, the mouthfeel will get you puckering while the smooth finish will get you smiling. Not a beer for the timid, La Folie is a sour delight that will turn your tongue on its head. Find out why it’s considered one of the best sour beers around.

Opaque brown. Small head. Aroma: balsamic vinegar, gingerbread cookies, cherries, caramel, milk chocolate, vanilla. Biting acidity, but balanced with some malt sweetness. Finishes off dry. Similar in flavor to what I would call "New Age Flanders Ales", like Lost Abbey Red Poppy, Cascade Sang Royale. Differs somewhat from the granddaddy Rodenbach in its gingerbread quality. It is a fine beer, with good balance and drinkability. Still, it doesn’t quite reach Rodenbach elegance or the Lost Abbey comforting mouthfeel.

Bottle @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival 2015. Surprising to find this very belgian style in an american beer. Makes me think of Rodenbach Grand Cru. Very good!

Large Format (2015 edition) - Dirt brown color, sweet smell. Sour taste is pronounced but I have had more sour that this one. Still makes me pucker. Dry after taste from the oak aging.
