COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

Pours dark red with a white head that dissipates quickly. You can smell how tart it’s going to be and it has some earthy barnyard to it as well. Taste is tart overwhelmingly tart, definitely makes you pucker. Definitely sour cherries and some apple as well as that yeast funk. On the palate it is very light and dry with fizzy carbonation almost like soda. Overall one of my favorite sours I’ve tried because of how unforgiving the sourness is, definitely New Belgium’s best.

Even-toned brown with almost no head. Very Flanders aroma, and taste is an intensely sour cherry. $12/5

OH SO GOOD, great super sour aroma tartness and oak character. Flavor of sour apple prune and a great blue cheese background with tartness to round out brew. Finishes fairly dry, leavin you wanting more of this complex brew

From a tap. Pours a dark amber red with a Coca-Cola tan head which dissipates quickly. Not much lacing left on the glass. Dark fruits, brown sugar and some funk comes through on the aroma. Taste is slightly sweet, some tartness, leather, dark fruits, and sour apples. The sourness stays on the palate for some time, not overpowering. Great beer!

On tap at Redlight Redlight in Orlando. Pours a dark red brown with a tan head and very sweet, tart fruity aroma. Taste is sour and tart, lots of apple and fruit notes coming through with oak and funk into the sour finish. Delicious wild ale

At Redlight Redlight in Orlando on Brandon’s birthday with A and Z , pours a dark brown color with no head. Nose is a deep sour and tart malt, and deliciously so. Taste is fruity and sweet up front followed by a strong tartness and sourness. Finish is sour and tart and mouth puckering. Great sour ! Quaff Score 8 / 100

Great beer, but I was expecting a little more. For the price tag and the hipe, I struggle to rate this much higher than the standard Rodenbach. Still a great beer worth hunting down, but given the option I’d have a Rodenbach grand cru, or pretty much any other Belgian oud brune. In a vertical tasting the new Belgium offering is harsher, and a little more sour. Overall a little thin and less balanced than the Rodenbach.

Ruby brown murky pour with little beige head. Funky strong scent, port wine but extra tart, pert sour, lighter fruits. Soft carbonation, extreme sour mouthfeel, almost gritty finish it’s so dry and sour. Bright sour apple and berry tart, a bit of chardonnay, also some nutty brown ale flavor with a bit of cocoa. Really great in your face sour but probably would add complexity with aging (more creaminess, deeper flavor palate).
