Commercial Description:
This is New Belgium Brewing's interpretation of a traditional Belgian Sour Brown. This unique beer has been peacefully aging in oaken barrels for several years. When you uncork La Folie, it is best to let it breathe before drinking. This will not only improve the bouquet, but also increase the beer's temperature, providing a more complex taste and body.

Bottle (750ml). Shared with MrManning, his bottle via trade with kevin - hand labeled "06-1308". *Rating #2100* I’ve been wanting to try this a long, long time - and it didn’t disappoint. Poured murky thick orange-brown with a decent head. Thick, sharp lemon-juice, funky yeast, coriander, oak, sour cherry, thick brown sugar and spice aroma - it kept shifting around - sour ... funky ... sweet. Yum. The up-front taste was lemon juice, then the other elements of this massive three-pronged attack joined in; rubber, sugar, coriander, lanolin, orange zest - but lurking under all that sourness and funk was a massive, rock-solid thick sweet malt body that held up for the hour or so we sipped at this. A thick, syrupy body, solid carbonation, heavy acidity, fresh squeezed lemon juice on the tongue - stunning; the very definition of a sour. I can’t thank you enough, Len - big ups, man!

Can’t thank Jake (BlackForestCO) enough for this gem.
Beautiful cloudy brown that shimmers with red tones and a moderately-sized off-white head. Nose is tart and acidic with loads of wood, some raisin, sugary sweet berries, grapes... delicious. Flavor builds on this, increasing the sour components and the creamy lactic notes... superb balance. Palate is full and acidic, spritzy and refreshing, and near endless in grape and lactic wood. Drank 750ml and wanted more... absolutely superb stuff here.

Much thanks to dpjuart for letting me try this. I’ve been waiting for so long.. Cloudy red body with a thin tan head. Wonderful sour, acidic, funky aroma with loads of fruit and vinegar. Sharp, biting taste. Acidic, sour, and fruity, with lemon, cherries, strawberries and much more. Damn near perfect in my book. Beautiful.

Tastes and smells like oaked warhead candies, minus most of the sweetness. very tart cherry, green apple, bread. Crisp mouthfeel pairs well with the tartness of the beer. Pretty tasty overall.

Pours an off-white head. I tried for a while to figure out what this smells like. Tuna Noodle Casserole. Absolutely. With some wood. Flavor: Luckily it doesn’t taste like Tuna Noodle Casserole. Cherry, some sour apple. It’s more tart, than sour. Fruity tartness. Sourdough. The wood in this is really not good I have to say. I think it is responsible for tuna casserole.

Thanks to BOLTZ7555 for the trade! A dark brown color with an off white head that leaves a tad of lacing. Aroma is tart fruit with a hint of oak. Flavor is tart as hell. It’s like drinking the sour candy I used to eat as a kid, and I pretty much love it. There’s a nice presence of earthy woodiness to it as well. Delicious as hell beer.
