La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged, sour brown spends one to three years in big, oak barrels, known as foeders. And when the beer finally hits the glass, La Folie is sharp and sour, full of green apple, cherry, and plum-skin notes. Pouring a deep mahogany, the mouthfeel will get you puckering while the smooth finish will get you smiling. Not a beer for the timid, La Folie is a sour delight that will turn your tongue on its head. Find out why it’s considered one of the best sour beers around.

On tap @ Public House in Vegas. Clear russet brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of sour cherries with underlyiing chocolate and woody elements. Funky sour cherries, dry cocoa, dusty wood, light leather. Quenchingly sour, not puckeringly sour-- something I really appreciate. Delicious.

Bottled@AIH53 (from systembolaget, umeå). Orangeish amber colour with a small white head. Aroma is kind of sour wood along with some mild slight sour fruity notes. Flavour is very similar. This feels rather hyped to me, and don’t get me wrong. It’s a beautifully balanced sour beer. But it lacks the depth of lambic, Rodenbach or most other "classics" in the sour/wild category. So adding something that’ll give depth to it would help it out from going from very nice to marvellous. I had vintage 2015 now on this very date (and have stored the bottled in constant temp and dark since I got it in Spring 2015).

Dark ruby color, small beige head. Nose has cherry, lactose overall fruity aroma. Medium-bodied. Flavor has acidic cherry, tartness and overall fruity flavor. Somewhat watery finish. Simple. Some wooden notes. It’s good and it’s tart but something is missing here to qualify 100 percentile.

Rating #1303 25.10.2014 On tap @revolutionyeg - Pours a deep reddish brown with a bubbly head that disapparates rather quickly. Aroma is wild cherries, sour plum tartness - rich, fruity texture. Palate is well balanced - lots of tart cherry, sweetness from the barrel component - lovely sour/bruin.

Bottle from Bianchini’s Market in San Carlos, CA. Aroma is cherries, plums, some wood. Taste is tart and crisp with loads of wood to mellow the sour. This is good but I think I was expecting something bigger / bolder. Still great.

Poured from a 2015 Bomber bottle. Medium rusty brown in color with a thin tan head. Aroma has some wood, spice, and a hint of sour fruit but not too strong. Taste is very tart and tangy with a little carbonation but not too sour. There is an earthy woody flavor but not much spice or fruit. The tartness hits the tip of the tongue then quickly disappears. Pretty one dimensional and not too complex. Could have been better if the fruit flavor or tartness lingered longer. The oak flavor was not prominent. Pretty good but not great.
