General_Gao (2575), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 15, 2006 Updated: Sep 8, 2007 Re-rate 9/6/07. This rating is for the special edition brewed for The Falling Rock Tap House anniversary. I couldn’t decide whether to give this a separate rating or not. It is a special blend of La Folie using all 10 Foeters (large wood fermenters). Usually La Folie uses beer from only 2-3. AbV is the same at 6%. I had it on tap at The Falling Rock. It poured a slightly hazy ruby red color. There was a ring of off white head. Aroma was of cherry, subdued black raspberry, apple, and light brown sugar. Very tart on the tongue with sour cherry, red wine vinegar (especially in the middle toward the end), and distinct oak. Delicious.
Original rating 10/15/06: Draft at the Falling Rock Tap House in Denver, CO. Attractive clear garnet color with a lasting foamy white head that laced the glass. Smelled of cherry taffy, apple, and white wine. Rich fruity flavor of melon, raspberry, and cherry with oak and alchol undertones. Extra tart on the tongue. 8/4/7/4-18
michael-pollack (1488), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 11, 2008 Bottle: Smells sour, plain and simple. Poured dark amber in color. Flavor was just sourness. Medium body. Puckering texture. Average carbonation. Sour finish. So sour your mouth just starts pouring out saliva. MI2CA (1101), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Oct 9, 2008 #1100 - 750ml thanks crosling - Aroma is sweet and sour. Red vinegar and red wine with cherry and oak. Pours dark garnet with a ring head and great lacing. Flavor is very sour. Red Vinegar, lots of cherry. oak and sour yeast goodness. The carbonation really brings out the sour on the tongue. Palate is tart, dry and sour. Very nice brew. BMan1113VR (913), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottle 71084859. Pours with a decently sized rocky, light brown head that flatens decently quickly. Hazy reddish brown body. Head sticks to the side of the glass quite well. Aroma of black cherries, oak, red wine, must, vanilla, currants, caramel, tartness, brown sugar, funk, and unripe raspberries. Very complex. Taste is very sour with light cherries and oak smoothness. Dry and mouthpuckering tartness with light, lively bubbles. MrChopin (206), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 4, 2008 Can’t thank Jake (BlackForestCO) enough for this gem.
Beautiful cloudy brown that shimmers with red tones and a moderately-sized off-white head. Nose is tart and acidic with loads of wood, some raisin, sugary sweet berries, grapes... delicious. Flavor builds on this, increasing the sour components and the creamy lactic notes... superb balance. Palate is full and acidic, spritzy and refreshing, and near endless in grape and lactic wood. Drank 750ml and wanted more... absolutely superb stuff here. santoslhalper (189), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2008 Much thanks to dpjuart for letting me try this. I’ve been waiting for so long.. Cloudy red body with a thin tan head. Wonderful sour, acidic, funky aroma with loads of fruit and vinegar. Sharp, biting taste. Acidic, sour, and fruity, with lemon, cherries, strawberries and much more. Damn near perfect in my book. Beautiful.
