Commercial Description:
La Folie Wood-Aged Biere, is our original wood-conditioned beer, resting in French Oak barrels between one and three years before being hand bottled, numbered and corked for your enjoyment. Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, came to us from Rodenbach – home of the fabled sour red. Our La Folie emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Peter’s beloved Flanders with sour apple notes, a dry effervescence, and earthy undertones.

Egad that's sour. Nice reddish brown color, like dried blood or so. It's no Rodenbach, but then again, what is? I gotta give it points for being an american beer in this style.

Sampled at the RBPG; bottle courtesy of lukin013. Sour malty cherry skins, smooth. Hops, light caramel. Deep vinuous aroma. Deep chestnut brown clear with thin off-white head. Smooth palate, velvety. Smooth tart fruity taste, light acidity, not harsh. Nice malt, with oak. Great fruity malt finish with light bitter after. I really like sour ales and this is a nice one; could probably chill out for a bit more time and be even better.

Hazy cedar brown, a ring of white lines the glass and is the light that leads me into the dimly lit cellar. . . Squashed cherries coat the floor and strangely encourage me to take a handful. . . The first taste creates a spontaneous salivation that Uri Geller would be shocked at - a completely natural and involuntary reponse to a wonderfully natural beer. Other flavours include limes, strawberries, lemons, and thick dust. Amazing brew.

Had this at the DC/MD/VA/WV/PA gathering. Bottle courtesy of eyedrinkale. Pours a reddened amber. Nose is strong sour cherry, light wood notes, mild barnyard and hints of cat urine. Perhaps some lingering vinegar. Excellent aroma. On par with it’s Belgian cousins! taste is tart but controlled. Wonderful! Mild sour fruit, some hints of wheat, light wood, faint vinegar, and perhaps an underlying sweetness. Body is mildly acidic and is definitely tart. Finishes with more tart fruit, light acidity, hints of other sour fruit and light woodiness. Great beer! I need some more of this!

Hazy brown/amber w/ Light tan head. Lovely lemony, barnyard aroma w/ notes of leather, dried fruit & wood. Light, acidic feel. Complex sour flavour of cherry, green apple, lemon, raisin, oak, & wine. Stupendous.

Poured a reddish orange color with a beautiful off white head. Aroma is of over ripe cherries, wood, earthy and acidic. Sour cherry is mostly the flavor without being over the top. Finish is sour and acidic, kind of dry.

The beer as it pours from the bottle a bemused reddish-amber color, the head smallish in size, creamy in texture and the color a winsome light tan color, with the lace a fine velum like curtain to drape the glass. Nose is tart and simply reeks of over ripe fruit with a pleasing oak and earthy aroma “WOW” what a treat for the old schnozzle, start is tart and nicely malted with the top fair to middling in its feel to the palate. Finish is stern in its acidity, hops delightful and accommodate the fruity tart sweetness quite well, very dry and long lasting aftertaste, what a magnificent beer it is a real treat, and one I wish was more readily available, hopefully soon is what I here, can’t wait to put some of these in my cellar.

Bright dark copper color. The nose is woody, notes of cork. Tart impressions surrounded by a very fresh, robust fruitiness. The body is very sour, rounded by a candied fruitiness. Very nice beer, more of these please.
