3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2005 Vintage. My brother lives in Denver and sent me 6 of these beauties last winter! I have been cracking them on special occasions, or when thirsty (always a special occasion). The last bottle was last week, and I have to admit that this beer is improving greatly in the bottle. My impressions last year this time were that it was overattenuated and not nearly as complex as the Rodenbach Grand Cru of 5+ years ago. Interestingly, the complexity is improving in the bottle with more complexity in the later tries. I am down to one bottle and will have to save it for a truly special occasion. Intensely sour, some woodiness, tart, and wonderfully crisp on the palate.

I am not really into sours and this was the first I believe. Very sour and tart. Different and unique beer for sure. I’ll have to try a few more.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A bottle that has been sitting in my basement for 2 or 3 years (for no good reason). Brown reddish pour with a slight tan head. Cherry, raspberry, oak and a hint of vinegar in the nose. Bright sourness in the taste. Cherry, dark fruit, acetic and lactic acid, sharp with a nice finish. Lightly acidic finish that sticks way back in my throat for a while after each sip.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2014 bottle. Poured into a glass. Very dark reddish brown. Little head. Aroma is very complex, rasins, leather, vinegar, cherries. Smells tart. Taste is tart initially, slight vinegar. Fruitiness with cherries and slightly tart raspberry flavors. Finishes with rasins and leather. Nice! Palate is pretty light in body, medium carbonation. Very good, very complex. This one will age nicely.

Mahogany brown and a tan foam. Brett character is very pleasant. Sour, tart, but without too much sweetness. Red apple finishes this off.

Taster at Strong Beer Fest. 2012 vintage. Pours mahogany brown with a bit of white head. Aroma is slightly spicy, sour cherry, acetic. Smells really good. You know what, this is really delicious! Sour cherry, for sure. acetic too. Theres something else that I can only relate to green tomato. I dunno, it’s tasty. Candy sugar and more dark cherry in the finish. I could drink a lot of this!

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Appearance: pours with a large and dense light tan head, the beer is a beautiful maroon color, appears to be clear
Aroma: sour, tart, creamy, love that aroma even if it’s simple
Taste: very sour and very tart, the wood barrels shows itself
Palate: average carbonation, very dry, leaves a sour aftertaste
Overall: I love this beer, incredibly sour, not very complex, it is what it is, if you like sours you will like this, reminds me a lot of Petrie aged pale

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I think this one is overrated. It is sweet and sour. Has a reddish brown color and a tan head. Ha at horse thief hollow. Watch out gettin here, rough neighborhoods around it.

22 ounce bottle into signature globe glass; 2013 vintage, bottled 12/2/2012. Pours crystal clear dark ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour cherry, cranberry, green apple, raisin, plum, red wine vinegar, caramel, brown bread, hay, straw, grass, leather, toasted oak, musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/funky/lactic yeast, dark malt, and oak notes; with good strength. Taste of sour cherry, green apple, cranberry, raisin, plum, red wine vinegar, caramel, brown bread, hay, straw, grass, leather, toasted oak, musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of fruity/earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour cherry, green apple, cranberry, raisin, plum, red wine vinegar, hay, straw, grass, leather, toasted oak, musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/funky/lactic yeast, dark malt, and oak barrel flavors; with an awesome malt/acidity balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately acidic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding Flanders brown ale. All around awesome complexity and balance of fruity/funky/lactic yeast, dark malt, and oak barrel flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink even with the moderate acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.

what a wonderful sour! Beautiful amber color, mild sour and fruity aroma, and a somewhat strong malty sour taste. One of my favorites from New Belgium for sure.
