JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Oct 26, 2009 Lightly hazed golden color with a bubbly to foamy near white color. Just a few isles of lace. Floral aromas along with pale malt, light honey, and bits of a dry barn granary. Yeasty malt flavors in the front give way to a citric middle. Light cloves and allspice near the finish. Has a bit of a watery presence at times. Also shows some alcohol. Bits of brett show up here and there, but don’t make much of an impression. Linger is light with just a bit of spice and brett. RSRIZZO (1346), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 26, 2009 Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a Trappist glass at 42°. Color is a pale yellow with a hint of orange and a slight haze. Carbonation is low giving almost no head. Aroma is light with a straw like scent backed by a faint flour hop scent. Starting with a lighter medium body it goes down with a soft slick feel that lets a light fizz come out on the end. Finish is a light salty pear taste, then peppery hops with a moderate bitterness. After taste is dry and sour leaving a slight pineapple taste. Overall its a good brew with a delicate feel and complex flavors. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 19, 2009 courtesy of vasdef42.
pours clear golden, white head.
Aroma is floral, hoppy with nice lemongrass.
Flavor, hoppy, light and thin body. Amazing lemongrass / citrus mouthfeel with hints of yeast. Felt a lot lighter than the 6.5% abv. djd07 (724), Houston, Texas, USA Oct 18, 2009 Bomber. Pours a cloudy yellow golden with a small frothy white head that leaves good sticky lacing. The aroma is bubblegum, lemon zest, and citrus. Thin mouthfeel with a light citrus with yeast and lemon with a nice clean finish. Easy to drink a good Belgian ale from New Belgium. TampaBrew (749), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 16, 2009 Pours a hazy yellow. Nose is bready, honey, spices, citrus, some funk. Flavor is spicey, funky, bready and yeasty. Some mild graininess, lemon zest. Grassy. RollinHard (750), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Oct 15, 2009 Pours hazy, somewhere between straw and gold, with a good sized creamy white head. Aroma is definitely flowery in nature with notes of dandelions, tangerine, sourdough bread, orange, goat cheese, and sweaty socks, but to put it flatteringly, this is yeast and hop driven with a SLIGHT bit of funk. Taste follows suit but is earthier with notes of sourdough, orange, tangerine, hay, cheese and socks again (brett influence?) and grass. Finishes dry with toast, old fruit and bitter flowers. Medium-light bodied, creamy mouthfeel, but not remotely doughy. Easy to drink. I like this. Reminds me of a more well-managed Avery 15 than Orval, but hey, whatev. Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 10, 2009 Updated: Oct 27, 2009Jeeebus, this is f’ing gross. Completely undrinkable. You fucking assholes at the brewery should print on the bottle if it’s brewed w/ brett yeast. Complete waste of $. Two sips then threw up in my mouth. zizzybalubba (339), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA Oct 9, 2009 22 oz. bottle from Liquor Mart in Boulder, CO (bottled 6/25/09). Pours pale yellow with a white head. Aroma of lemon zest, Belgian yeast, and a hint of spice. Light citrus flavor along with a bit of coriander. This is light and refreshing but nothing really stands out. The description mentions Orval as a beer that attempts to pattern itself after. While I see the similarities it is not as good.
