mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 12, 2009 Isn’t that cute, a beer named in French? Let’s hope the true Northern MI in me and the bootleg LA holds up, I need to work on this: Well, laisse-moi! Pours cloudy golden yellow with a decent white head. Aroma is a little bandaid funk, a little booze, cloves, and some sort of herbal thing that I couldn’t really place. Dandelions? Taste adds some bitter unripe orange. Mild aspirin bitterness in the taste and finish. carruthm (1112), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 9, 2009 Cloudy light orange lots of floral bitters. Smooth palate but lacking subtlety in aroma. Dominated by the floral notes. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a off white head. Aroma is sweet, with a little bit of citrus as well. I had a very similar beer @ Goose Island last night. Rather plain beer though. graham515 (420), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 8, 2009 Pours yellow into the glass with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is honey sweet with a bit of stale hops and sourness. Flavor is slightly sweet malt with a significant bitterness and a bit of the brett coming through to a quick, dry finish. As I understand it this beer is a nod to Orval. Well done, but not quite on par with the master! ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Aug 6, 2009 22oz bottle and brewery tap. Pours a pale cloudy gold with a white head that has excellent retention and lacing. Smell of light malts, a bit of candy like sugar sweetness, and some spicy hops, very crisp and clean smelling beer. Taste is light in the mouth with pale malts and a bit of a hoppy bite at the end. Mouthfeel is very light and dry, but still refreshing.
TAR (2088), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Aug 6, 2009 Golden-straw with some haze. Compact, tiny-bubbled white head establishes a retentive collar. Plastic-tainted nose displays lighter notes of alcohol, Sweet Tarts, plaster, and herbal hops. Muted horseblanket, Band-Aid, and toasted hay. Soft carbonic prickles. Bottle conditioned. Astringently hoppy and plasticlike with an overbearing brett-induced mineralic harshness and medicinal alcohol burn. Ghostlike pils malt contributes dry toastiness as it wavers in and out of the slick fruity esters. Hop character is fairly aggressive in both flavor and bitterness, but lacks cleanness. Brash anise and clove spice exacerbates the unclean hop bitterness. Finishes softly herbal and slickly fruity, though continually caustic and unrefined as the burning alcohol clashes with the Sweet Tart and pervasive plastic. Pretty poor and somewhat flawed. Merely a small step up from an entry-level effort. Beaver (588), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Aug 5, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy dark yellow with a pillowy white head that retains well and leaves a lot of lacing.
The aroma is bretty musty yeast (horse blanket?) with some lemon.
The flavor is sweet malts with bright lemoney fruits leading to a medium bitterness with a good amount of brett. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with great carbonation.
Overall, a great beer. I love the balance of the sweet fruits and brett. I found it best colder, as it sat it mellowed a bit too much.
