awaisanen (1161), Irvine, California, USA Apr 13, 2007 On tap at the Liar’s Club. I’ll admit it; I was a bit disappointed at first when the keg of La Folie got tapped, and this one was put in its place. I was thoroughly enjoying my afternoon of sipping La Folie in the hot sun, but after switching to this, I quickly realized there was nothing to be disappointed about. Hazy, honey amber colored pour with a nice thin head of fine bubbled white. Light vanilla in the nose, along with some gentle cinnimon spiced apple cider. A bit of fruity, floral character that reminds me of orange blossoms and juicy peach flesh. A smidgen of the nail-polishy, acetonish character found in La Folie, but less so. Hmm... sour canteloupes... exquisite. Light to medium bodied, tingly mouthfeel. Crisp, cidery flavors with dustings of musty pomegranites. Loads of light, sour under-ripe fruits abound; perhaps bartlett pears and crispy jimaca served with a pinch of ground green peppercorns. Lemony hops are left lingering in the final smack, giving it a clean, refreshing finish. Outstanding, and I love how the hoppy finish a.) works remarkably well with the beer and b.) is restrained enough to let the magic of the sourness run the show. Hats off!
BDR (1929), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Oct 12, 2008 love fest ’08. Hazy amber with nice carbonation. Mmmn. Sour bitter citrus hops on the aroma. Smooth with an incredibly biting fruity brown sugar cinnamon sourness. Citrus hope battles the Sourness in the lingering finish. Rciesla (897), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Sep 26, 2008 Draft. Thank you joey big times! Orange body citrus sour funk and apple vinegar. A really good sour pucker ale. thejoeshow (130), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Sep 13, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy golden orange color with a thin white head. The aroma is very citrusy and there is an almost earthy overtone to it. The flavor is very complex. There is the huge sourness that has a very sugary/sweet side to balance it out a touch. It really reminds me of sour patch kids. Very fruity, sweet, sugary, and tart. This is excellent! All in all a nice beer. joebrew (608), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Sep 12, 2008 Huge thanks to thejoeshow for sharing this very hard to find gem! Pours a beautiful cloudy opaque woody unfiltered apple cider hue. Nice tart acidic green apple, rasberry, cherry, oaky tannins, and once a gain a sugary sweet sour candy like tearjerkers. The palate is delightfully tart, but well balanced with huge lemon, green and red apples, definate cider vinegar as well. The palate hangs for awhile and screams oak and tart acidity! this beer is amazing!
