Oscar is New Belgium’s dark sour aged on oak foeders at the brewery. It is blended in various proportions in many of New Belgium’s sour, wood-aged beers, such as La Folie. This version is aged in Leopold’s Apple Whiskey Barrels.

Pert sour fruit sour and chardonnay taste, green apples, salt/vinegar, bit of cherry and wood. Bitter finish flavor somewhat reminiscent of whiskey.

On tap at the 1st annual Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting 2013, this pours an amber-mahogany that has a minimal head, leaving light lace. The nose is sour and shows some funky active cultures present... yummy! Active fruits on the tongue, sour cherries, Granny Smith apples and mixing sours culminate in a sour cherry finish. Active on the palate, but smooth as the day is long, the contrasts in the mouth are delightful and delicious. So nice to have been offered such a rare treat.

Euclid Hall at GABF. Pours a cloudy brown, small head. I get the apple brandy right up front followed by the familiar aroma of the barrel aged sours of NB beers that we all love! Flavor is sour, vinegar, sweetness from the barrels. Damn fun and damn fine beer!

On draft at Euclid Hall for Gabf. Pours a dark brown with a thin white head. Nose is a wicked blend of apple spirits, vinegar, malt, and wood. Flavor follows the nose: more spirits in the nose than mouth, but all in all a fantastic beer for 7%. Outstanding sour!
