3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
"had Kick first, then clutch. surprised to learn after the fact that this is indeed only 20% sour ale, and 80% stout, which is pretty much what it tastes like. they do the dark roasty goodness well, especially in the aroma, but i will admit i was hoping for a more sour & funky brew. kick advertised on the bottle that only 25% was wood aged, but this only said dark sour, and the sour definitely was taking the back seat. just hints of fruit, oak, and wild yeast in the arom and a touch more on the back end of the flavor. a good beer, not quite as advertised, and a tad expensive for a "good" kida sour stout."

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle pour split. Pours super dark with a cocoa, dark fruit aroma. Dark fruit flavor, a little raisin, and some plum. Slightly sour, with a mild dark chocolate background. Not as sour as I was expecting, but doesn’t change the fact that this is a good beer. The bottle calls this a "sour ale", but I don’t think I would classify it as that. Again, good beer though.

Cocoa aroma with Belgian yeast as well. Some dark fruit aromas and flavors. Very mild sourness but overall a full flavored stout with some fruit backbone.

Tap at hops and pie. Clear dark reddish brown with a frothy tan head that lasts on the sides and laces. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, raisins, dark fruit, and roasted malt. Flavor is tart fruit, chocolate, coffee, raisins, caramel, and roasted malt. Medium bodied, smooth and creamy.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from the bottle into a snifter. Forgot I had 2 of these bottles collecting dust, so I opened one of them. Smells of dark chocolate, coffee, and raisins. Taste like sour cherries and tart cranberries, small chocolate presence, and caramel malt. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, and a little oily. At least I can say I finally tried it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Falling Rock earlier today. Black appearance with an off-white head and lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, sour notes and dark chocolate. Similar flavor, dark, malty, woody, semi-sweet and lightly sour. Medium body, somewhat dry, crisp and pretty clean. Pretty interesting and easy to drink, I was surprised to find out just now it was 9%.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark brown pour with a tan head. Thin tart with green apple and light chocolate roast in the aroma. Taste is light tart up front followed by a disjointed malt backbone showing some light roast with tea and watery generic sweetness. Light, somewhat clean mouthfeel. Decent but perhaps I should have opened this sooner.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft at Whole Foods Market - Chandler. Medium aroma of slightly sour cherry, light balsamic vinegar, and a muted touch of dark roasted malt. Pours almost a inky dark purple (nearly black) with no head. The taste has faded quite a bit with muted sour stone fruit, oxidized chocolate and carob, an earthy malt backbone, medium acidity, and light coffee beans. Medium body, slightly slick texture with barely any carb. Too bad, it was awesome when fresh.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle @ the 2nd Shrewsbury Bottle Share, courtesy of myself. Was given this by a friend in Maryland and stood on my shelf as a geeky momento in France for a while before being packed away and forgotten about. 3 years later here it is, aged unintentionally, and it tastes fantastic. Pours an ostensibly pitch black with a bassline of dark chocolate and a few cherries & raisins dotted about, some caramel coming through offsetting the sourness. Wouldn’t necessarily have labelled this a sour, but age can do wonders do a beer. Very impressed with this. Shame i didn’t pick up more in the States.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle broached on 24th Feb 2014: shared at the second ever ’Shrewsbury Bottle Share’, four of us tucked into this: cheers Mat for bringing it (he’s a Clutch fan). I’ve never heard of Clutch of course, apart from the ones in the various cars I’ve owned.
Anyway the beauty poured a dark, dark brown, almost black in fact.
Dark fruits wrapped in chocolate with a sourness that belies the sweetness that is trying to burst through the brew. A dusting of caster sugar towards the end gives the beer a slightly less sour finish and adds a little lightness to the whole thing.
Different and pleasing, my third beer from New Belgium, they are doing OK in my eyes.
